Just a reminder, even if it hasn't come up for a few pages and y'all should know this stuff by now:

Australians have never been oppressed by truly bad government before in its short history. This means the complete inability of its constituents to understand the importance of basic freedoms adopted by countries that have gone through social upheaval as a result of bad governance (i.e France's declaration of the rights of man and the citizen, America's constitutions etc)

The constituents believe they can be pragmatic by giving away fundamental personal freedoms when in fact they are just ...ahem...misguided
Did anyone “give away” their personal freedoms? (Nobody’s still in a lockdown, surely.)
Or did they agree to suspend some in acknowledgement of a common good?

Good man booting out all the illegal immigrants. Hope he follows through.

A man who led the States for four years and didn’t turn the country into his personal hand puppet, will suddenly do so in year 5?

Are you being deliberately disingenuous or are you just poorly informed?

There are hundreds of accounts by people who worked for him and decent political journalists of how his worst intentions were kept in check by the guardrails of democracy & people who refused to break the law/constitution on his behalf.

This time he & his billionaire/fundamentalist backers are much better prepared to dismantle the checks & balances.

Well I thought I made it pretty clear, by actually saying 'Even though the world has massively improved since they were young'

Apologies if you missed it.
The world can improve overall without improving for all.

That's exactly what Trump's grievance politics tries to persuade young white men of. And not just young white men.

Increased opportunities in education and the workplace for women have reduced their opportunities, not just in education and the workplace but also to be the dominant force in their relationship with a woman.

Immigrants - especially non-white immigrants - have further reduced their opportunities in the workplace.

And there's an element of truth in there, certainly for some. It's just that the biggest villain in the stagnated economic well-being of the aggrieved isn't the "minorities". It's Trump and his cronies.

It's a bit more nuanced than that, if you were to believe trump he'd deport immigrants coz they're immigrants.

Sounds like you're ok with that.

I think I speak (and understand) a completely different version of the English language to you (and 'Johnny Maga', whoever that might be). I understand none of your word-mashes, and that apparent paraphrasing of what Harris said bears no relation to what she actually said.
I have to agree it's like a word weave.

Mass deportation would not only reduce jobs for citizens, but impact family members who are citizens. There are roughly 4.1 million mixed-status families living in the U.S., according to data from the Pew Research Center. About 4.4 million U.S.-born children live with an undocumented parent.

Deporting us citizens

Not to mention a lot of migrants work jobs that the average American will not do at a low wage.

Most of those people do not work

Most of those people do not work

  • Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022. Most of that amount, $59.4 billion, was paid to the federal government while the remaining $37.3 billion was paid to state and local governments.
  • Undocumented immigrants paid federal, state, and local taxes of $8,889 per person in 2022. In other words, for every 1 million undocumented immigrants who reside in the country, public services receive $8.9 billion in additional tax revenue.

Wait

We had a covid inquiry ?

Did they find out why the conservatives let a covid-riddled ship dock in Circular Quay or how the conservatives let an infected fed-ex crew waltz through customs at Mascot ?
