My brother had a heart attack 12 months before Covid. He has had 5 vaccinations since 2020 and hasn't had a heart attack since.

Using your logic, the covid vaccine has cured him of his heart disease.

And one could argue the same philosophy for the other end of the political spectrum.

For example older folks like boomers lament the slowly over time changing of society to favour minority groups over everyone else. That's how they view it, they think it's 'unfair' coz not everyone is treated / viewed the same.

All series of small steps, over time, and their world has massively changed, and they think it's worse. Even though the world has massively improved since they were young.

If trump wins then buckle up, those dangers may well be played out, because he'll be in a position of power and influence, liberal democracy around the world is at stake, that's my biggest fear. The slow seeping in of oppression of what was once free and liberal.

Yes they think it’s worse, but that is due to others getting more rights, so unless it’s a zero sum game (it isn’t) then gay people being able to marry, people using pronouns doesn’t effect your life in any negative way.

Those people’s fears are imagined and the real issue which is the funneling of wealth to the very few, is a class issue and they are directed by the right wing to blame minorities, the woke mob etc.

I am talking about normalising Muslim bans, making out immigrants/minorities or whatever out group is the enemy, refusing to accept the results of elections etc etc. Those things do have a negative impact on society, even those MAGA people who support them. As if they go after other people, you’d be very naive to think your social group would remain unaffected if they had unchecked power.

Now I know how people see it but it’s largely culture war BS the right use to disguise the fact their economic agenda would be wildly unpopular.

The criticism of the left (in this case the Dems) would be they don’t do enough (they don’t) and often use culture wars as a cheap way of currying favour with their base without having to upset their donors.

People often come up with the wrong answer to polarisation, they think it’s to go both sidesy, and believe any bat shit insanity the most extreme says.

Like the answer to deporting 11 million immigrants that the GOP want and the Dems wanting 0 deported is to split the difference and go 5.5 million.

Unfortunately that means in Gaza the middle point between the 2 parties is somewhere between a slower genocide vs a quicker genocide.

The pandemic was a test of the social contract, are we willing to make sacrifices to help other people. For too many people, the answer was no, going out was more important than whether some people lived and died. What a shiteful indictment that is on those people.

It also exposed the idiots among us, those that thought doing 'their own research' online trumped the combined experience of infectious disease experts. Here we are years down the track and the vaccine hasn't been exposed as poison and is still recommended to ward against COVID.

Good thing in Australia we have a greater sense of collectivism for the greater good than the US.

Literally anybody who was at risk could have taken the necessary precautions to keep themselves safe - stay home, wear face mask etc. Why did good, healthy people have to sacrifice everything good in life for an illness that did not affect most people that had it?

Governments have let their citizens eat themselves, drink themselves and smoke themselves to death for decades. But people like me who wanted to go to the beach and have a barbecue with friends? Nah we’re selfish and killing people with our actions.

What COVID did was expose how many boot lickers there are out there who will snitch on their friends, family and neighbours because the government told them it was the right thing to do.

And for what purpose do you believe this was done? Wasn’t the theory at the time it was to have totalitarian rule over us?
