Ambrose - Just for the extra pace & height compared to pigeon
Marshall - just when you think it gets easier because he's shorter, the first change comes on who can also swing it both ways at serious pace.

Because for South Indians at least they often don't have last names - they have patronymics. Its always a bugger filling in forms for my wife if they ask for maiden names or mothers maiden names. With Sikhs there is only a very small number of surnames, primarily Singh.

If so do you think that is because the sports scientists realized that you don't need to bowl at 140+km/hr consistently to trouble batsmen?

Or is it more so because so much more cricket is played these days?

Or because you can't bowl that fast consistently & avoid injury?

If he plays a classical drive and nicks off everyone says he's too young and calls for his head. Kahwaja played and missed at 15 separate balls and he's a hero for sticking it out. Kahwaja was also stone dead plumb but hawk eye saved him.
Bumerah had konstas on toast his first 2 overs and kahwaja wouldn't rotate strike.
So he takes an innovative approach. Bumerah puts one wide he ramps. More risk free shot. No different to a play and miss drive but less chance of getting caught if he miss hits. A couple come off Bumerah panics and bowls straight into his zone a couple more shots and India fell apart and the rest is history.

I don't think it's slowed down it's just only every so often you get a number of 150km plus types at Test level, then there are guys capable of pushing that speed in certain spells etc. but hang more in the 140km range.

I reckon Jeff Thomson is full of shit tbh I really doubt he was any quicker than Lee, Akhtar etc. at least on any consistent basis.

It was good to watch but I didn't see anything yet to think he can make it long term.

High ceiling though and we need someone like him in the test team, England have proved you can have a few in the team that bat like he did.

You're right, he got very lucky today, batting like that is not sustainable. But it was his day, it came off.

I'll be interested to see how he adjusts his game in the future.

HE definitely switched off a little when the spinners came on, don't think him having to do a interview at the drinks break helped either.

Commentators were talking like he was going to slap around the spinners with ease.

He was probably mentally exhausted by the time he got to 50.
