And even then would still have to (most likely) pull off the 2nd highest run chase in MCG history...

It's extremely unlikely they could roll Australia for 200 on this pitch. And if it's because some pitch gremlins have appeared, then they'll be fighting even more gremlins themselves on day 5.

Of course you could bet your house at 8-1 and you'll be rich. But there's a reason punters aren't taking an Indian win seriously.

This is a very different pitch to mcg pitches of other decades though. It's a road. 350 is chaseable if one of your top 3 gets a big score.

Newish book on the Harry Hodgetts looks interesting.
Please share the title.

Edit: just done some googling. Is Hodgetts some kind a Adelaide business titan? If not for the Bradman connection, who would GAF?

Not having a go at you - I just can’t understand why anyone would write such shit. I’m not defending Bradman in any way, by most accounts he was a pretty different type of character to the typecast sporting hero and possibly not the greatest team player, however.

Having read some of his letters to friends written late in his life, there’s just an amount of sadness attached to the public fascination with him that definitely took a toll on his enjoyment of life at various points in time and that is a massive price to pay.
Agreed, having also seen some letters. Extended family received them.

Huge tall poppy syndrome with the way people try to tear Bradman down. "So you were elite in every sport you ever tried? Well how about your personality shortcomings?"

Nobody ever takes this approach with Shane Warne for example.

I find it all quite distasteful.

Australia should win from here. India's multiple all-rounder strategy paid off relatively well in first innings, but they are a batsman short for the task at hand now.

Too many out of form and also relatively attacking players, I don't see that batting line-up as one you would want to task with digging in on a 5th day pitch.

It will need to start showing some variable bounce because nothing has been happening sideways. You'd be absolutely spot on but I haven't see any sort of deterioration in the pitch.

The ticket pricing clearly hasn't kept anyone away for the first 3 days, but bloody hell it's prohibitive for someone who was just considering wondering down for a look for 60-70 overs tomorrow (until my back gets sore and I'm loathing the MCG, sporting events, stadiums, and every other person at the ground.)

The pricing to sit in the shade is insane.

My two year grandson could keep Marsh's "thunderbolts" out.

Absolutely baffling selection.

I reckon if we had have lost in Brisbane he would have been dropped. We didn't win either but it certainly looked like with any sort of weather, we would have.

A draw here, he probably goes. He's been given another game to show something and so far, he's shown nothing.

I’m not convinced it’s not going to be a result pitch - some balls were jagging a long way even late in the day with an oldish ball. I sat behind the bowlers arm for the majority of the day.

Australia’s tactics were at times confusing and I could not understand some of Cummins fields. When Pant was dismissed they were one wicket away from opening it right up but he sort of just let the game drift and in the end allowed India back into the contest. Reddy’s knock was fantastic to watch live, he is a seriously good player and I underestimated him big time, but Cummins was content to let him cruise along without actually trying anything out of the ordinary and they just bowled to some stupid plans. Sundar just played a very disciplined role - faced the same amount of balls but refused to get sucked in - his innings deserves to be rated highly.

I still think the ball will duck around and the pitch will keep lower and have more variable bounce as it goes on. Starc was bowling 140 clicks and some weren’t getting to Carey. Bowled and LBW in play along with bat pad

This is where AFL membership comes in handy, especially when the interest is from the visiting fans so tickets very easy to get. Although I’m not sitting in the shade and I ****ed up and bought an adult ticket instead of a kids ticket for the little shit, but oh well!

Just buy the cheapest ticket you can and then take a seat in a shaded section (e.g. bottom level, Olympic stand). They typically don't check your ticket on your way into a bay if you look like you're just returning to your seat.

That aside, I agree. You should be able to get into the final session for $10 or $15.

I reckon Warney did cop a bit at times due to his activities away from the field and there's women in particular that have pretty negative views on him tbh, obviously his recent passing swings the positivity meter a fair bit.

He copped it a lot.

It made his own field performances even more impressive with how much he was under the microscope.

Yea and you really can't compare it to Bradman, the negative angles on Don seem to have started with everyone from teammates to later on with Ian Chappell etc. rather than a public driven tall poppy thing.

He set a good field to Pant.
Made a smart call at the end to bail.
In between those 2 smart things his Captaincy was the usual bog ordinary, unimaginative mess it normally is.

I agree with a lot of that.

India played really well.
I did see some balls move but they weren't really on the length that would trouble the batsmen if they are playing straight.
If the pitch doesn't deteriorate tomorrow I think we will struggle to bowl them out day 5.
The question is whether they are brave enough to try to chase a win and do we dangle the Carrot. Is either team willing to risk losing or are both content with a draw?

I reckon he struggles with his tactics when he gets tired

I agree but I also reckon too much is pre organised.

I’m not a huge fan of Ian Chappell…but I think he’s right when he says that all the “coaches” have too much say on planning and tactics and a bit of instinct and sense is lost
