They beat us last two times here because they were able to rotate quicks in and out without losing effectiveness across 5 tests, where we used the same four blokes and visibly tired. This time, they've been unable to rely on Siraj, Shami's been unavailable and Akash Deep has been acceptable without excelling. Bumrah has been their only consistent option, and he's visibly wilting spell by spell.

It's day 3 tomorrow. Force another 10-15 overs into him, and give yourself five sessions plus to take ten wickets.

I did it one time - first ball of the match, went with the call, keeper dropped the ball and I got my highest ever score. Lucky as buggery

Nah. Root's only above Smith on raw metrics because they play a lot more matches. Smith still has an averaqe six runs higher, and only one fewer tonne in like eighty less innings.

if he went to the call he was either out to a blinding direct hit or safe. if he stands there and says no then his team mate is out guaranteed. obviously, there's no time to weigh that up in the moment. but that's why the rule is to honour the call.
