Williamson continues to be chronically underrated.

All-time: Smith > Williamson > Root > Kohli
Last 3yr: Williamson > Root > Smith > Kohli

Smith - Tests: 113 Runs: 9949 Ave: 56.52 (last 3yr - 33/2282/45.64)
Williamson - Tests: 105 Runs: 9276 Ave 54.88 (last 3yr - 19/2004/60.72)
Root - Tests: 152 Runs: 12972 Ave: 50.87 (last 3yr - 40/3441/53.76)
Kohli - Tests: 121 Runs: 9166 Ave: 47.49 (last 3yr - 24/1348/35.47)
Williamson isn't good enough to tie the shoes of the best of this era let alone as an all time great

How exactly does a batter getting out "trigger" a collapse though? An individual is still responsible for their own wicket, regardless of what the bloke before them did.
Momentum and psychological pressure are big things in cricket - new player has to come out and acclimatise, upsets the rhythm of the other batsman, bowlers get a lift, fielders increase the chat

Double ton not out in his last Test IIRC. In India? Not a bad dig
Dizzy was on Triple M a while back, and at one point he was on air with Mark Waugh. The conversation turned to his double hundred, and Dizzy decides to have a bit of fun by saying, "I did get a bit nervous when I reached 160. How did you go in the 160's Junior - oh that's right, you never got there." 🤣

And when at home the crowd can also lift and be louder and have more energy.

Mitch Johnson 13-14 is the prime example of just one wicket changing the whole game and the psychological pressure getting bigger and bigger with every wicket.

I love all of them but I'm still taking Lara and Tendulkar ahead of them, in my opinion.

Still think people shouldn't lose sight of the fact that this is the cripple fight version of India vs Australia.

The Kiwi series wasn't an aberration, this Indian side just sucks at the moment. And they are making us look better than we are.
Our fast bowling has always been quality and will trouble any side, the concern was regain in form of Smith and Labuschagne which they are doing against a quality bowler in Bumrah and finding an opener to replace Warner and Khawaja. Carey has greatly improved as batsmen-keeper and Green was trending upwards as a batsmen before his injury, I can't see Lyon going on longer but we do a replacement in Murphy.

He still is now.

Root is a serial loser with England (was also a shit captain). but they did "win" the World Cup.... Tied twice in reality.
Williamson carries NZ which is far more impressive.
Kohli has the worst average of the lot.

Kohli, Smith and Williamson all have tons in all 4 countries. Root still hasn't popped his Aus cherry.
Reckon you’ve got Williamson and Root the wrong way around. For most of Root’s career he’s carried a shit team full of hacks. While Williamson’s NZ team has been pretty solid for a prolonged period of time.

It’s hard for me to rate Williamson that highly when he only averages 36 against Australia and 37 against India.

Over the course of a career Smith is clearly ahead of the rest in test cricket.
If we’re talking about all formats with limited overs record included maybe Kohli has an argument but when it really matters I.e. ODI semi finals and finals Kohli hasn’t made a defining knock whereas Smith has.

Lyon isn't going to want to miss next Summer's Ashes.

India have been on the back foot for the 2nd and 3rd Tests and now they are on the back foot so far in this 4th Test. They've bought a team over that collectively is out of form. Their batting has been brittle, their bowling - only Bumrah has been consistently good. If Australia win this 4th Test then India need to win the 5th Test to draw series and they retain Border-Gavaskar Trophy. If they lose 5th Test then they lose series. Their (India) batting has been poor all series collectively so far apart from a few good shows here and there. Australia's batting has also been brittle but not as bad as India's batting.

But let's not forget, India lost lost 0-3 to New Zealand in India in that Test series. before they came out to Australia. They carried that poor form with them to Australia. They need to make changes very soon to set up their future. Sharma looks finished, so does Kohli. Ashwin retired last week as we know. You can sort of see the script for rest of this series....Australia should win series I think. India just haven't been good enough. Plus the MCG deck has no gremlins in it. It's good to bat on. India aren't taking advantage of the good batting deck.

Hopefully Pant and Jadeja can stick around. Pant is yet to fire.....India need him to fire now.

Australia has problems too but India aren't going so well.

Root has 1 big failure on his resume - no hundreds in Australia. Maybe he can rectify that next summer.

He doesn’t play against India nor Australia enough.
Australia gets a 5 match series v India. NZ only gets 2-3 matches if that v England India or Australia. It’s a travesty.

Even Starc in the World Cup Final.

That noise has an effect

True tuggs...it was the young fellas call you can make an argument that it was the wrong one

My point is ..they knew they F**ked up both of them ...Kohli could've crossed sacrificed his wicket for the batter in form

but no f**k that ..no way would King Kohli give away his wicket for a team mate

it reminds of a S waugh and Marto run out years ago.....S Waugh the same hit it straight the fielder went off for a run...marto down the bowlers end...but marto ...knew someone was going to be run out...crossed...and marto got run out ..wasnt his fault but he gave away his wicket for the side and captain ....no way in this world would Kohli..thats my point

selfish ....p
Top order batsman don't sacrifice themselves regardless mate.
And it all happens in a nanosecond.

I didn't like Kohli remonstrating but there's no ways that's on him IMO.

Assuming India lose this Test, wouldn't surprise me if Rohit announces his retirement with Sydney his last Test... He just looks mentally and physically cooked.... His Captaincy is all over the place

if he went to the call he was either out to a blinding direct hit or safe. if he stands there and says no then his team mate is out guaranteed. obviously, there's no time to weigh that up in the moment. but that's why the rule is to honour the call.
Hit it straight to Cummins and it would've been an easy hit.

Players not honouring the call happens dozens of times a game.
It usually doesn't end up in a run out though.
