From Twitter:

ESS have only won one of their last 6 games vs sides sitting 18th on the ladder
2019 R08 L v SYD
2019 R03 W v MELB
2018 R08 L v CARL
2018 R03 L v WBD
2017 R15 L v BRIS
2016 R11 L v FREM
And some say we don't need a culture change and shake things up. I want someone to post evidence we are on track. ****ing shit gutless club!

Can't believe that Heppell was smiling after the game. Joking with Myers. If he was a real leader, he would've dropped Myers and then stepped over his comatose body. Send a strong message to the rest of the team. Let them know that when you are 70m out with the game on the line you go for the torpedo not a centring kick to the top of the square.

Myers didn't want to do a hammy so he can collect his match day check next week.

If the AFL has any balls they would take the 4 points of Sydney and award the with to Essendon
Farken lol. Put things into context here. To the absolute letter of the law, nothing is mentioned about climbing the post. And let's be realistic, the game was over, Myers was 70 Meters out on the final siren, was never a chance and it would've been an absolute farce to put a player on the goal line when the game is dead and buried, final siren gone.

If you're going to overturn decisions post game, then you need to look at every decision not just the last play. Eg, the rubbish freekick goal awarded to stringer for a play on from ramped when he never played on, and a couple of other freebie goals that were the direct result of shocking umpiring decisions. Cop it and move on. You didn't deserve it.

Who cares if we deserved the win or not. The fact is we should've had it. Umpire saw Rampe jump on the goal post, the goal post was clearly shaking, and if the umpire had any idea of the rules we would've been given a game winning free kick.

I will love to see the umpires justification for this one. "He didn't mean to shake the post... he was just trying to climb up it to... uhhh... touch the ball. The goal post moving around wasn't really his fault, even though he jumped into it with the full weight of his body.... us umpires do good work in the community".

Surely a loss like that is a massive wake up call. Players don't seem to be at the pressure levels required.

Freo, Tigers & Blues before the bye. Could lose 2 of those.

As a club, we are just as we were in the 70's, irrelevant.

Sadly yep....

my mind tonight went back to that elimination final at VFL Park v Fitzroy in 81’ I think.

Soul destroying stuff.

Yet just a few years later we were the most brutal team ever to Don the sash and a force to be feared.

I don’t see any signs of that impending improvement these days with our current list.

All I see is players full of weaknesses when the time comes to stand up and be first to the ball.

Ahhh...well. We can’t win em all.

The letter of the law says that's a free kick on the goal line. It's okay that you can't comprehend the rules though, Hayden Kennedy may offer you a job this week.

On the Myers kick, he was a less than 5% chance of kicking that. It was windy at the ground tonight and he had to kick it 65 metres. He doesn't have that distance in him anymore, certainly not from a set shot.

It's all very de ja vu for us, year in year out. I wonder what have the common denominators been over that period?

How we let sydney take so many contested marks close to their goal, without looking like getting anywhere near the ball was damning.

The interrupted pre season for a number of our midfielders is certainly showing. They aren't consistent enough over 4 quarters, week in week out.

McGrath and redman were good, I took some heart out of their games. Heppell was giving it all in the last quarter, but it didn't eventuate to much on the scoreboard for us.

Zaharakis and Myers kind of sum up essendon over the last 10 years. In what way have they developed or progressed as professional footballers? We drop ridley twice, but these 2 only get rested or managed.

How about we learn how to pin a player when we tackle them? It appears weekly that opponents break many of our tackles with ease. It infuriates me.

So disappointed, but hey that feeling happens every year. What's the point?

Bad umpiring decision don't just happen in the last 10 seconds of the game. If stringer didn't get his freebie freekick we would've won by two goals. If we should've had a 50 meter penalty instead of 100 then you would've won by a point. You coukd argue against many umpiring decisions affecting the final score throughout the game. Just because it was the last second doesn't make it any different.

You don’t like pelicans, do you?

Pelicans are actually quite an admirable bird - not sticking their beaks in where they shouldn’t be, knowing just how big those saggy pointy bastards are. God bless ‘em.

Yes...I live right on the beach here in Perf and see then fly over my head every day and get mtrs from them when they paddle over to the shore looking for a snack.

Majestic creatures they are.

You can’t shake the post.

Whether you shoulder it or push it or dance the Charleston on the top of it.

Letter of the law.

Yeah it should've been a freekick. But there were freekicks during the game resulting in goals that you shouldn't have got and vise versa. What makes one less acceptable than the other. If you want to change 1 decision then you need to change them all.

Yep, 81 and also 82 we lost the elimination final. Struggled to win a final back then, just like our recent efforts. Don't see another Sheeds on the horizon for us unfortunately.

It was the same story that it always is. Too many passengers. Too many inconsistent performers. Too many players safe at the selection table despite middling performances and careers.

We are a club awash in mediocrity and it has infected the club from the very top to the very bottom.

The club will claim that they are hurting. That this isn't who they are. And for a week or two maybe that will be true but this is Essendon. We haven't been relevant in some 15-years and that evidently hasn't changed in 2019.

And it is a shame because on paper we have the most talented squad that we've seen since 2000-01. The team features two All-Australian defenders, three All-Australian midfielders and two All-Australian forwards. Only one of those players is over the age of 30. Clarko would probably win a premiership with this squad. We will settle for somewhere between 8th and 12th with a promise that next year will be the year that things finally change.

It kinda does mate, since it puts a bloke on the goal square with a set shot after the final siren.
