He had his finger under the ball but it was also touching the ground while not controlled. He squeezed it off the ground with his finger to get it up to Marnus
It's a 2D camera from outside the ground. Saw a caught and bowled in the women's BBL. The regular camera had it very doubtful, stump cam had it caught 5 or 6 inches above the ground. 2D cameras are useless for low catches.

That’s why he was moved to rd ump.
You can properly influence games up there.
His fingers are under it, he has not used the ground to control it.
Starc at lords puts it on the ground. This is not that!

He was actually appointed third umpire for this game months ago… not because of last week

I thought part of the ball can touch the ground if you have your finger underneath which was why Smith was able to flick the ball up????
Yep. But it was only one finger at the time, and ball rolled off to the side. Like I said, you could argue a case - but in the end benefit of the doubt is fair

I wonder what the plausible physics around that catch would be - easier to flick up like that if the finger was always under it? Easier to flick up if it is already bouncing a bit off the ground? All irrelevant?
That's my thoughts... how could it have gone up like that from his fingertips if it hit the ground... it could squeeze out like that only "up" with the way his fingers were on the ball...

Probably a good thing the decision went their way?
The whinging and moaning woulda been insufferable
they would have left mid match
