Can someone give me a valid reason why it has taken so long to play Webster, a player who plays like he actually wants to be out there? Unlike the "much loved great bloke" who never looked like he wanted to bat or bowl.

Because before '21/22 he was only a moderate bat and bowled only acceptable off spin. His star began to rise the following season and he went from moderate to solid with bat and medium pace ball. The next year his all round game lifted another level. The rest is history.
