I think Clarko had a conversation with JHF, before he did a runner, about playing him across half back and easing him into the midfield, I wonder if he will try that with Warlord.
Much better than crucifying him in the middle or languishing across our (previously) structureless half forward line.

Sure, he'll probably have a bright future as a footballer, but every time I see this geezer he seems like he should be in some big denim jeans and a bucket hat, hunched over a low-hanging bass for some indie '80s outfit from Manchester.

Absolutely love that he's got number 6.
Me too. Gives all those kids (and adults) who bought a jumper with No. 6 on the back last year something to look forward to.

The annals of North Melbourne will record;
*** 17 games
George Wardlaw 278 games, 4 Premierships, 1 Brownlow Medal, 3 Syd Barker Medals.

5 goals in a GF twice.

Force = Mass x Acceleration.

George doesn’t need the mass yet to hit hard, because he’s got the other bit covered.

He will play plenty in the AFL. He’s arguably the best credentialed junior on our list of all our top picks.

LDU and Simpkin are just about the least defensively minded mids in the entire league.

You need defensive balance and George will provide that in bursts imo in his initial role.
Assessment of Jy and LDU factually incorrect. Both above average or elite in tackles and pressure acts.

So given the thread for our brand new premium mid was almost on page 3, I can assume most aren’t expecting much to get excited about the Warlord in the short term.

Running laps isn’t going to see him improve his relatively low endurance base and obviously we are going to be ultra careful with him in regards to the hamstrings.

So, now the draft has happened, and despite being ready to roll in preseason he’s running laps, what are everybody’s expectations from a progression to play point of view for Georgey boy.

Personally, whilst I know we are only in December, I don’t think he’s going to play to much afl football in 2023.

If Wardlaw only plays a few games in the seniors towards the end of the year, and that’s the price we pay for LDU, Simpkin, Cunners, Powell and Phillips having a relatively injury free season of solid form, I’m just fine with that. Let the kid soak up a year of uninterrupted professional development. His time will come.

I’d say the club is just getting an idea of where his body and conditioning is at. Applying the precautionary principle until they have a good gauge as to whether there are any risks with his hamstrings or anything else.

Ease him into it prior to Christmas, then builds his loads for the first two months of the new year.

I expect him to have managed game time in the VFL early in the year, but be pushing for selection by about half way through the year.
