Best game i have seen him play and i am a doubter but Feck he played like Liam Baker

I've been pretty hard on his selection but mainly in regard to his selection last year. I hated the way Hardwick coached us last year, he punished small forwards and gave them little license to be creative.

I have always like the way Mansell went about it, and in my defence I did say I wouldn't mind him forward if he played the Graham type of forward, getting up the ground and using his running and hardness. It's amazing what a bit of confidence and backing from a coach gets you. Same for MJR, injected into the midfield in the VFL to get his hands on the ball away from goal has made him a better player. I've been waiting to see them do the same thing with Cumberland. Get him in the guts to refresh how to play the game without the constant need to kick or create a goal. He was drafted as a mid/forward. This is what the VFL is for.

I have been a doubter of his because, he can do some silly things & can lack composure at times like in the Carlton game.
But he is clearly ahead of Cumberland at this level.
Different players, same position. Cumberland has more tricks, but unless he develops a more rounded game he won't be seen anytime soon up top.

Big difference in Mansell's game this year is his ability to hunt the ball, he has been given a licence to use his run, his speed, be aggressive and get the ball. They need to do the same with Cumberland in the VFL, get him up the ground, play him in the middle occasionally, off half back, anything to develop his all-round game. He has the talent, but too much going on between the ears, needs to get down and dirty and forget about playing senior for a bit. They did it with Dow and that worked.

Definitely playing a more Castagna-like role, up the ground to help transition the loose ball with speed back to goal.
His last kick was the blast kick from half back that got to Bolton up the wing.
Coming along nicely.

He has always been hard at it, but like most of the other youngsters has been inconsistent. Can play a good game, and then a couple of weeks later the knives are out again. Just have to expect it from them, and hope that the MC get as many games into he and the others as they can. We will reap the rewards in the long run.

Yup as will be the way with all our young players
As a general rule it isn’t really until they start looking at that 50 - 100 afl game threshold do we start to see that consistency
Ross is the perfect example who is now sitting at 67 games and we have seen that continuity in his game grow dramatically

That’s why it’s essential to ride the ups and downs with some of these younger players and not be quick to just drop them when they have form slumps

Especially guys like Dow and Mansell who have shown a couple of times they do have what it takes but both sitting at 21 and 35 games respectively

I think Cumberland is now finding out that it is a lot tougher to be a superstar goal kicker when you carry an honest load defensively, but the team benefits overall despite you not looking so flash. He just needs to keep putting in that wholehearted defensive effort, but don't expect to see him return to being an eye-catching goal kicker while he is going flat out defensively.

That is true, but as he develops he will get that balance between attack and defence better worked out. Hence play him away from goal for a while, so he can actually attack the footy rather than the man/chase and zone etc, a bit like Mansell is now doing and MRJ did this week. Both worked right up the the middle of the ground.

I have just about lost hope of cumberland making it at AFL level
as others have mentioned its no longer Dimma doesnt like him and Mini and now Yze are all seeing what Dimma seen last 3 years

The guy has more issue's in his head than on the football field and his over reacting to any little injury really gets up my goat
Has the talent but not the determination to take him to the next level

I don't think its a question of determination...jeez the last few games played...cumbo goes like a cut cat!
I think, Cumbo going like a cut cat is his absolute one wood in his golfing bag...no other sticks...err tricks!
Thinking maybe take the goal kicking pressure of him so he learns the defensive side of footy by playing Mid!

I've been eating humble pie.

Wanted this bloke kicked out, but his game was excellent. If this can be anywhere near his standard then he's a keeper.

That poster the week before drove me nuts.
I've been the same.
Was probably his biggest critic over his short journey so far, but if he plays like that more often than not, he's going to end up a handy player.

loving his work since returning from injury, he’s doing stuff that I’d have thought last year was beyond him.
kicking the ball 50m, taking pack marks, splitting open packs. Didn’t believe what I was seeing at the ground, Sydney supporters were asking us at one stage , who the hell is this bloke ( they may have mixed him up a couple of times with Campbell).
Interesting to see if that’s a defining game.

Something happened last night that I'd never thought would happen.
I actually considered bringing in Mansell into my SuperCoach Draft team.

What world are we living in.
So, not only did I consider it but I actually did it and wow was that one of the worst SuperCoach decisions I made.

Didn't have a great game this week, but I think he holds his spot (not in my SC team but in the AFL team)
