Haven't been to a game since the Cats debacle & won't be returning/paying memberships until Hirds gone.

WADA aside, these blokes are still getting payed & effort/discipline are absolute non negotiables that this side pays scant regard to, because Hird can't coach it.

His supposed directives to play attacking, exciting football was short lived & we now are back to the sideways, backwards tripe that's been the cornerstone of our game for nearly 2 years now.

He continues to play the same blokes who don't deserve games. Melksham, Cooney, Zaka...all just float through games. Wtf is there to achieve playing Cooney ahead of a Kavanagh??

I just scratch my head at where this club's heading. I've never been close to the despondency I'm currently at as Essendon supporter.

Something has to give!!

Haha I was 18.

What a year it was that team feared no one and the skills they had were Harlmen Globe Trotters type stuff.Shame they only have 1 flag to show for it should have won at least another 2.

Yeah but we didn't, and it's 15 years ago now. Who cares.

WADA aside

Things won't get much better until it's over. Impossible to put it aside and objectively rate our performances this year.

It's ****ed but that's how it is. Just have to try and find the glimmers of light in the performances of guys like Laverde, Langford, and the Merrett's, and hope that 2016 is a fresh start.

Am i the only one who is happy. If you are going to tank do it properly!! With a decent fixture and run of injuries we might be ok next year.

It is what it is. Anyway bitching about losses at this stage needs to re think how they are seeing the season. No one wants to be flogged but the team we are putting out and certain playing positions during the games on top of the rest will result in these types of results.

You simply can not play Langford and Laverde and not expect better sides to flog us from half back. It is good we are giving these blokes exposure but they
are not ready and sides are attacking through them going the other way.

You can not play Cooney for a half in the forward line and then in defense for the last quarter if you are looking to win. He played 15 minutes in the midfield and had the first 2 clearances in the third quarter and 7 possessions in that time. Still people bagging his pick up but that 15 minutes showed what we need in the midfield, outside speed.
We have an serious lack of speed in the midfield and unless we can do something about it sides are going to run around us. We can not keep going with Watson , Stanton, Goddard, Heppell, Myers, Zaka, Hocking or Howlett. Simply too slow and no change up.
We have Colyer to come back but he has to turn into a more consistent ball winner, Zak M is going well but is not super quick although quicker than the fore mentioned group. Fantasia has pace but is still a work in progress, Browne has some speed but he is still 50/50 in his development. You can see why they went after Cooney. We have a need for speed. Otherwise we have to play a precision ball game and with our constant dropped marks, fumbles, handballs that miss the mark, kicks that do not go on the full etc we can not do it.

I did not really watch the game as a match today, i went in with my old recruiting hat on to watch 8 or 9 of our blokes. Cooney was one, very quiet first half as a forward only but then so where the rest of them. Started the third quarter in the middle and was very good, first 2 clearance, good run and around 8 possessions in 15 or so minutes. Was then sent to half back which put him out of the game.

Melksham was pretty much useless, no impact at all, let his player run off all night. Massive flop for a bloke who seems to be an automatic selection.

Ambrose, i have stuck up for his spot in the past as he has supplied pressure, made tackles etc but the last 3 weeks he has been very ordinary, work rate down, not many tackles, can not take a mark, fumbles. Very poor.

Langford and Laverde , both show a few good things but are very raw, get tired easily and are just not ready for the up and down the ground game they have to play. It is good they are getting exposure and they will learn and will be good as both do smart things at times but other sides are playing through them going the other way.

Giles, thought he did ok. Not super great but played up to his VFL form.

One last thing to ponder, Crameri aside they had 3 other players in their side that we had at Bendigo when we where aligned with them but never seriously looked at.

With a good off-season (WADA over, Carlisle stays, make the right cuts to the list, minimal injuries) I think we can get back to competing for a finals spot.

Why did we return to our slow, boring, regressive style of play this week? ******* boring as batshit and we suck when we do it.
Good question. It was as though they were instructed to slow down and kick sideways and backwards.

We appeared to get our hands on the ball far more often from the centre bounces but didn't know how to use it.

Every contest appeared to be 2-1 or 3-1 in favour of the Dogs.

One positive for the game was the positions of Carlisle and Hooker. Hooker just plays and looks like a forward. Improved set shot as well, more games up forward the better he will be. Also Carlisle seemed confident and was strutting around defense like 2013 again. Seemed in a positive mindset which can't be said for him the last 2 years up forward!

Gwilt has played really well. Giles played ok as well.

Have u written off guys like Watson, Colyer, Hocking, Myers? Or TBC.
I forgot about Colyer, Myers and Hocking to be honest - but they are certainly part of my list to build on.

Watson isn't sure he wants to play on and TBC needs a BIG lift to be useful

- Melksham should definitely not be considered the automatic best 22 player he clearly is not. I'm very open to trading him or even maybe delisting him.
- The Steinberg issues continue (not quick enough for guys his size, not tall or strong enough for KPFs). It really seems like we're beating our head against a wall and expecting it to turn into a room.
- The lack of two-way running (even when we have the ball, bizarrely) is still killing us.
- We need Myers and Hocking to instill a bit of order and help for Heppell asap imo.
- We can't continue to play the current incarnation of Ambrose imo. At this point, he is a fundamentally one-dimensional player who, for whatever reason, has stalled.

Out of side next week must be Zaharakis (I like him but a message needs to be sent), Melksham (on effort), Steinberg and Ambrose (on ability), Langford (on preservation). I'd also drop Nob but can understand the logic in keeping him in. Cooney needs more than 1 game I'm a row. I still think that with our full team up and running he can be the cream on top next year.

Smack and Dempsey in as forwards. Hurley, edwards, and Hocking back in. Consider Howlett for added grunt and Pears for a final judgment.

Is Kav worth bothering with anymore??

Obv didn't see the game so talking blind, but given we scored 5 goals and conceded 19, did it really work?
