Adam Cerra vs Archie Perkins. What would you prefer your club to do?

Back to zones, I say. The Melbourne teams can have players from their respective postcodes, Fremantle can have anyone from that suburb, and West Coast gets anyone born within 500km of the Indian Ocean. I'm all for it.

How about WC get the greater Midland area and anywhere north of Wanneroo.

that’s fair

Who tf is perkins

Pre draft tampering by stating outside of Vic clubs should not draft him despite being a top-10 estimated pick.

Dunkley 2.0

Benefits the Vic club so play on

Should've been excluded from the draft imho

Brett Chalmers says hello

Still baffled they didn't take Naughton. Filled a need and projected as a better player.
At the time Naughton was a key defender with an iffy kick. They had Pearce, Hamling and had drafted Logue the previous year. Naughton only became a key forward in his second year for the dogs.

He’s from Rockingham. Too lower class for WC..being the elitist snobs they are.

Well that and he was already off the draft board by the time we had our pick, bit hard to select him then

WC had plenty of opportunities to get him in their system at 15/16 years old. But he was just another super tall kid then. But I saw plenty of him abd he had strong marking skills.

And obviously Peel is a Freo zone

It’s certainly a factor in the decision of who to pick but if a player is good enough I think you just have to take that risk.

Who knows if they’ll want to leave anyway just because they said they’d want to at 18? I’m guessing there’s plenty of players who when first drafted thought they’d take the first plane back home but didn’t communicate that and ended up changing their mind.

Or maybe they do leave but you get enough good footy out of them to make the original pick worthwhile, e.g. Danger, Brad Hill

To quote our Premier, when asked about someone getting a tattoo of him on their leg - "I used to be in the navy and I live in Rockingham. I've seen worse."

Rockingham is getting too expensive for the ferals. Property value up 13%. Mansions going up everywhere.

The Rockingham Hotel was a victim of covid lockdown last year and has ceased to trade. Will probably be bulldozed for development on its prime foreshore site.

Things are shifting and the ferals are being shunted out to Baldivis and Wellard . McGowan has lifted the image somewhat of Rocko.

Saw the news about Cerra requesting a trade today. As a Freo supporter this incredibly frustrating and disappointing. To sink a high draft pick, 4 years of development and resources into him only for him to play for another club is a bit of a joke, to put it lightly. However the situation reminds me of the Archie Perkins story last year. Perkins came out and said he would prefer not to be traded interstate. If you're an interstate club on draft night and Perkins is at the top of your list on talent, do you just let him go to another club and pick the lesser player? What if Perkins is a future All Australian etc? You'd look pretty silly not to pick him. It's a bit of damned if you do, damned if you don't situation; burned either way. So I want to open up the discussion and see what bigfooty thinks. If you were a list manager on draft night and the kid you want most prefers not to be drafted to your home state, what would you do?

Perkins was asked by clubs how he felt about moving interstate - as they ask
all players. He said he’d prefer not to.

I think they probably appreciated the honesty.

Some people bagged him for it. For me it falls under the category “if you don’t want the answer, don’t ask the ****ing question”.

Rockingham still the paedophile capital of WA hasn't lifted its image that much

What is the real reason they prefer not to move interstate?

The limelight, TV exposure, to be a 'legend' amongst their school mates, have a free run with the ladies...I mean as an 18 year old, sure these things obviously seem really important.

What they fail to recognise is the positives of learning to be an independent young adult.

Hiding behind a mental health label as some of them do is pretty weak IMO. Different story if they have a legitimate diagnosis of course. Although I'm pretty dubious for how many this truly applies.

Bailey Smith couldn't leave Victoria... until 2020, in which case he had no problems leaving and going into the hub for a few months..

Not that I particularly care about any discussion regarding the eagles getting Naughton, but what do you mean about 'plenty of opportunities to get him in their system at 15/16 years old'. There's no such mechanism in the AFL.

Rory Lobb,
Reece Conca
Jesse Hogan
Travis Colyer
Nathan Wilson
Cameron McCarthy
Joel Hamling
Headland
Jeff Farmer
Peter Bell

Hell, You've taken
Ben Allen
Luke McPharlin
Brad Hill

all off us, Who are 3 incredibly handy players and you are going to turn around and say for the first time Freo have lost a promising young player that its a joke? Ignoring about 25 years of Freo actively targeting homesick WA boys? Last year alone You've targeted Starcevich and SPS to come home. Dont forget attempts at Clarke, Yeo ect. for years leading up to them asking for trades

It's an active goal of Freo to target local kids from WA in victoria/QLD to try to bring them home and your pissy that one player has left freo? absolutely rich

telling club that in an interview - sure its disappointing, but ok

going on national radio before the draft and announcing you have told clubs you want to stay in victoria - not ok

Y’all are forgetting that Naughton told Freo not to draft him as he wants to go to Melbourne, preferably Collingwood
Yeah he said he wanted to go to Melbourne

Funnily enough the pies were going to pick him up but Stephenson was undrafted so they jumped on that
