It's OK to admit you're shaking in your boots.

I mean it's understandable. Imagine losing to us and going out in straight sets when we're missing our 5 best players, have one less day to prepare/recover, and have to spend the night in a hotel, after a 7 hour bus ride!?

Oh the shame.
7 hours? You counting the return bus ride as well after the game has been played?

What happened in that last quarter was something that we've done a few times this year, which is that we stoped doing what had been working so well for us (and which got us out to that very comfortable lead), which is that we stopped the very attacking play, and went very conservative, and tried to protect the lead, rather than add to it.

Which opened the door in a big way for the Bulldogs to get back into the game and to get a whole heap of momentum up.

It was just a mindset thing and something that Ratts has spoken about since.

We need to keep the pedal to the metal and keep playing to win, rather than switching to playing to not lose.

Yes I did notice that vs the Dogs. Against Port they were just stunning. I do wonder how sustainable it might be, though.

LOL this is a strange thread

Saints fans give good sh*t and going full on - Good onya guys nice to see you up and about

But at the end they say " Not expecting to win this ''

But but but but

Just a reminder about taking confidence in the H/A win , I wouldnt really put much confidence in that as the Hawks also beat us this year
and in 2017 Crows smashed us in the home away game and GWS also did the same in 2019

Finals are different and experience does matter , The last quarter of the Doggies game at the 10 minute mark the commentators commented that the Doggies went into foward 50 11 times for 1 goal 5.

Saints were very very lucky to get away with that

We’re up and about, naturally, to be back in finals.

Most of us aren’t expecting a win but are just hoping for a competitive performance.

Tiges are vulnerable. It may be down to Desire as their game plan, personnel and coaching is top notch. There were no glitches in the successful Hungry years, it was all 100 miles an hour dont explain dont complain.

Port and Lions have the Hunger. Do the Tiges?

On my mangey mob, certainly had Bucks performing well last week and the team went Forward, Quickly.
Genius.

I reckon they may have the Craving. Could it be a Pies Tiger GF if the Tigers realise that 2 flags with this team is inadequate and will leave them Unsated?

Thedrive from Noosa to Metricon is a little over 2 hours lol
Yeh I don't get who's driving around in circles for 7 hours to pep the team up. It's about half hour longer to Metricon than if they were travelling from Noosa to the Gabba.

That's very fair. And compared to those teams? I would say no. Our playing group has been there and done that and might be feeling more of that mental fatigue being away for so long. The carrot of winning a flag isn't as tasty as it would have been had we not won it before. Both the Power and Lions are fresh, primed, incentivised and motivated to either win one at home, or salute in the 150th year, or hell even just win one because they haven't before and you can see they are absolutely hell bent on doing what it takes to win. It's the same look we had in 2017 when we stormed through finals.

I reckon it very well could be a tigers v pies gf, we should both make the prelim and could be some nerves in the power and lions camp. Sportsbet paying a tasty $26 for tigers to beat pies in the gf.

Well following training today the pundits believe that Rats has given the nod to Battle 193, Marsh 194 and Savage 187.
For Carlisle 200, Ryder 197 and Long 184.

So Saints are smaller, but both Battle (most of last season at CHB) and Marsh ( at the Pies) have played Key Position at times. For this game I suspect Battle will be down back, as playing at time other roles and Marsh will play at forward.

It also means only one genuine ruck, though King will take the hitouts in the forward line at times. And who knows Rats may even surprise and have him do a little bit more rucking up the ground. Otherwise Marsh, Battle and even Howard may give Marshall some chop outs.

While slightly smaller, the team is not a small team and will be quicker (Marsh is very quick, as is Savage) and will also have increased running capacity as Battle is an elite distance runner. The Saints were already quicker than the Tigers, but this will increase that advantage.

Structurally the team is not quite as well balanced as the two ruck set-up was working for Saints very well. However they are still a team a good balance with plenty of height around the ground and marking capacity. And it does mean that the speed advantage is strengthened.

The St Kilda back six is a quite a quick unit:

Wilkie Howard Paton
Coffield Battle Clark (Savage)

2017 Draft Combine -Smartspeed 20-metre sprint
Jack Petruccelle - 2.87 seconds
Kane Farrell - 2.90
Aiden Bonar - 2.90
Ben Miller - 2.91
Nick Coffield - 2.91
Ben Paton - 2.95

Brent Daniels - 2.95
Stefan Okunbar - 2.95
Jaidyn Stephenson - 2.95
Nicholas Shipley - 2.97

100% speed is the Saints way to try and win this now. The Tigers aren't as quick as we were a couple of years ago in 2017. The Saints could definitely get some advantage here.

Umps will get involved for sure as well, might put a screen in front of the TV tomorrow.

Saints definitely can't fade late as they did against the Bulldogs or else they could get blown away late, even if they somehow manage to outplay or equal the Tigers most of the game.

Doubt that would happen again if we were in the same position. That was our first final in a while and they were probably unsure of just how to handle that situation and went onto their shells too early. Would have been a big part of the review.

Yes however, nothing like a loss to replenish motivation.
