Hilarious that you actually think that margin was accurate of the game that was being played. They had 3 players down too btw. Pathetic you think Saints had a right to those 4 points.

Agreed.

Port scored 11.16.82 to saints 11.6.72.

had port kicked accurate, Port couldof kicked 15-17 goals and won by 5-7 goals
port didn't kick accurately, the game was down to 10 points before the umps gave Dixon the softest free you'll see all year for a goal, and another on the wing to ice the game, not even 5 seconds after Stocker, in a near identical contest was denied the same free.

Port would have, should have, could have, but didn't, they needed an armchair ride from the umps. Not saying we deserve it, but seriously, if you think that was umpired well then god help the game.

So Saints was screwed just like Freo was screwed by carlton in the gather round game? Is that what you are saying?

But you saints fans have no issues winning close games with the umpires help? That is nice to hear.

They are so concerned with being overly defensive, rather than trying to kick a winning score

Kick 80 points and you generally beat them
Their average goals per game (10) is the same as Hawthorn, West Coast and North Melbourne.

They have the 4th most disposals per game, but their opponent always has more (saints 18th for least opponent disposals per game). That's some funky football right there. Just runnin' around, not tackling anyone, clogging up space.

Even Clarkson plays ross lyon footy lol

Few takeaways from the game:
  • Bonner should be playing div 4 local footy
  • I did like Battle up the ground more at times.
  • Caminiti should play over Sharman when King is back
  • 2nd & 3rd year players aren't consistent enough, again showed flashes but need to put full games together
  • Wilson is incredible, Hastie & Garcia probably aren't really ready yet, idk if you can play both
  • I pray its nothing serious for Marshall.
  • A few key players to come in over the next few weeks.

if you can't see that 2 teams were umpired very differently, in a game that was barely more than 3 goals margin, an extra 15 frees sure does wonders, esp when you getting easy shots at goal off them
Again....

Saints had 4 blokes on the bench after half time. Port only had 1. So in a view, Saints should of overran the power in the final quater and won.

Again....

Port scored 11.16.82. Saints scored 11.6.72.

If Port kicked 16.11.107 and saints kicked 6.11.47, would you think it was close?

If you think in any way shape or form the saints had any right to win tonight, you are sadly mistaken.

Did you scroll past all those numbers on the way to the free kick count?
Those numbers also explain a lot of the free kick differential. More contested possessions which means you're first to the ball so more likely to get a high tackle or push in theback. More inside 50s at pace which means defenders are more likely to panic and give away silly free kicks. More tackles which means you're more likely to get holding the ball or deliberate frees from panic kicks.

I'm not a Port fan but St. Kilda also had plenty of 50/50 or iffy decisions go their way. 50 and a free against Horne-Francis / Boak for dissent (both correct but let go too often) yet no 50 against Memberey for taking over 10 seconds to give the ball to a player after a free. No 50 metre penalty for giving away a free and kicking the ball away. 50 metre penalty against a Port player for overstepping the mark (correct decision but umpires are usually gutless and give multiple warnings) yet no penalty for St Kilda player running into protected area 3 times in 1 play alone.

No free kick to Horne-Francis for a high tackle (correct decision) yet St. Kilda's first goal came from a free paid for very similar contact which is a 50/50 of whether it gets paid. I agree that Port got questionable decisions their way (Dixon's free kick late and the holding the ball at the start of the last) to name a few but to say that was the difference is laughable. Port worked harder, pressured better and took the game on more and that's why they won. If you want to see umpires favouring a team look at the St. Kilda vs Collingwood or Sydney vs West Coast (favoured team first) games from this year, or the 1st quarter from tonight.

St. Kilda only in the game at quarter time from (in order) Port's inaccurate kicking, St Kilda's efficiency at taking their chances and getting looked after by the umpires.
25 free kicks to 10, the umpires stepped up to cover for Port's injured players, they deserve a Gatorade shower in their rooms.

Most teams would have won against a team that was 4 players down. If you look back historically.. I'm sure you will find most teams that lose 2 players in a game will lose the match. Unless of course those players were lost late in the game when the leading team already had a winning margin. St Kilda actually looked worse, when Port lost those players.. which was quite bizarre.

How many goals did Port score from frees... it seemed like a lot of their frees were inside 50 and lead to a goal.

Port ain't winning anything.

Ross Lyon's demonstrates that he can't evolve to the modern football.

S. Hitehouse all around.
Please, we were about as bad as it gets and devoid of a functioning midfield and forward line and still won.
We did what we had to do to get the points.

Port clearly more skilled /talented than we have atm - are they winning the flag?
No chance.
They’ll shyte the bed at G against better opponents
Umps were farcical tonight no debate
Saints played a game style commensurate with their talent - fumbles, dropped chest marks, handballs to stationary players….we have some sub standard AFL players for sure
Draw flattered us last year - just like it’s doing Bombers this year who are similarly Shiit
Lucky AFL dip next year for a soft draw and 7-8th making up numbers finish!!

Umpires were consistent.
Consistent with the 10 they gave the Pies last week during their comeback and the entire 2nd half of the Carlton game where GWS got none.

Sucks when it goes the wrong way though I agree.
