It is hard to keep it up for a whole game though with the interchange limits and the longer quarters. It is why you see lower teams being competitive for 2 and half quarters by locking down the better side, then getting run over at the end.

Clarkson is killing Essendon tactically with a substandard team. Hawthorn should have converted that dominance into a 5 or 6 goal lead. If Essendon takes their chances when they have their turn at controlling the game it might end up being an undeserved 6+ goal win to Essendon.

I get that your side is young, but why bring the whole game down with you? Playing spare men in defense, tagging and slow general play, it gets you nowhere

Hawks fans, do you think Clarkson slightly changes tactics to pre-empt Essendon adjusting? Every time we play you guys when you're a cellar dwellar or a good side carrying a lot of injuries he pulls out something that dismantles Essendon. We seem less likely to beat Hawthorn when we "should".
Are you talking about Tippas and Zerk Thatchers? Yeah, I agree they are not consistent with how the game has been umpired this year. Even handed of you to see how Essendon has copped a few roughies there.
