I'm really surprised at how pessimistic the Port supporters (around here at least) seem to be about this one. They've had very disappointing and deflating losses against Freo and Melbourne, but I reckon they probably would have won one - if not both - of those games in Adelaide.

It almost seems like a lot are just ready for change and would almost prefer to not snatch that eighth spot, if it extends Hinkley's tenure. But if they win here, I think the fixture really opens up for Port and they'd still be every chance to get there.

From Geelong's side, the Port loss last week probably helps a little bit, the momentum from a top two scalp and coming back to Adelaide Oval would have been a significant advantage. Menegola out and Parfitt in looks like an obvious change, possibly Bews rested to make up for him not getting his rest last week (medi-sub, was on the ground 10 minutes into the first quarter). Possibly 1-2 of the warhorses given a spell too.

I wouldn't risk it here personally, but Hawkins staying at home with his newborn would be a possibility I suppose, along with Selwood and maybe Stanley against Port's depleted ruck division.

In the recent 'just do what's required to secure top four, preferably top two' era, this would have let-down game written all over it. I think we're cemented in the top two if we win here and it would be our longest winning streak since 2011. Four-zip following Stewart's suspension would be massive. It's a genuine 50/50 for me but a great chance for Geelong to make another big statement.

How many frees for Selwood this weekend now the AFL are cracking down on the lifting the arm for over the shoulder freekick?
prob his average... he just puts his head over it first.

Go Catters

The Cats record in Adelaide hasn't been great recently, so this will be pretty close. The Cats just, Port don't have the defenders to handle both Hawkins and Cameron. One of them will kick a bag.

We obviously lost the really important one there last year, but we did beat Port in Adelaide in the 2021 H&A rounds. I feel like we've won over there quite a bit since Port and Adelaide moved to Adelaide Oval.

Plenty. We’ve got the umps in our pocket, don’t forget.

Ken Hinkley will be free to coach other clubs come 5pm Monday

he has been free to do so, from a Port supporter base perspective, for years now.

Why won't Ken exercise his freedom?

Hard to get excited for this game, probably end up being another (dis)honourable loss against a contender.

Might wanna mute the pox footy call, I hear der-wayne will be calling a 5th Port game in the last 6 matches, who on earth assigns the commentators to games? Whoever it is ain't doing a good job that's for sure
