I think the thought process is that it will create more hype which will create more attention and maybe money, but not really sure how it will translate in real terms. Conversely wouldn't Brisbane and GWS doing well be good for the AFL? It would draw more attention/create more fans in NSW and QLD and grow the game there.

I agree.

If it were to come to pass, I imagine marketed as a State v State game could tap into quite a bit of support to get new eyes on the screens across the two states which would benefit both (and AFL growth)...

Like NRL State of Origin but AFL. Ironically the Lions will be wearing maroon but the Blues won't be playing.

Hardly, they were both solid four quarters performances. Giants controlled most of both matches. It was the Saints who has two short bursts but were shite the rest of the time. Likewise Port.
St.K broke even in the second half and they evened up CP and Clearances - so it was a game of 2 halves. Same as the beaten up PA - who evened up the match and dominated scoring opportunities kicking 4.10 in the second half. Kicking 1.9 in the last QTR showed that GWS faltered under pressure and a better team would have put them away with that many scoring shots.
If you think Kingsley is not concerned about poor second halves you’d be kidding yourself.

As I said two 10 minute periods of dominance in each game won it for GWS.

for a guy with the handle of “No Spin” you certainly like to try to put a big spin on things.

we’ve won more 4th quarters this year than the last couple of years combined I reckon - it’s one of the marked turn arounds that we fans, who actually watch our games, have noticed.

we are a completely different side to the one that run out in May - or that “faced 5 of the bottom 6” that you think padded our stats. Our run home was Adelaide in Adelaide (should have been top 8) - ok GC, there’s one, Dogs in the 8 at the time, Sydney, PA (both lost, one close, the other not so much but made up for on Saturday), Essendon who were ahead of us on the ladder and actually playing for a spot in the 8 at the time and Carlton at marvel who were fifth and on a long winning streak having knocked over your mob in the process.

then we beat St Kilda in Melbourne and Port in Adelaide in the finals.

during that run we lost precisely 1 final quarter (on Saturday night by 3 points when the game was dusted) - so this concern of yours about our “poor second halves” is a little misplaced methinks.

I’d say our recent form stacks up pretty good.

That said - I’m not actually expecting to win this one - Collingwood have been the best team all year - I just think it‘s going to be a lot closer than a few of your mob think it might be.

I really don’t know where the Pies sit.
First half of season they were a class above. Second half okay but come back to pack

Were they just waiting for finals or have they slipped and sides found them out a bit?

Hardest thing is now trying to switch back on with 2 games in over a month. There must be doubts as they haven’t played near their potential in a couple of months and the drop off in key stats must be worrying

Much like the Demons last year

I don’t believe there is key stand out in the 4 left. Brisbane have a huge advantage coming in in form and at home.

I don’t know answer but if GWS play their best I reckon they can win.

Precisely, it could be a good opportunity to tap into the market via a State v State game - I find that a lot of people are open to the AFL it's just a matter of getting them to watch a game. At least, the younger demographics are open to watching a game, older NRL demographic may not be as keen.

Foundation has been laid with 2 clubs each in each state, matter of getting eyes on the product to potentially propel growth up and down the east coast via its existing interconnections.

If I were a Pies supporter I'd be having a few sleepless nights between now and game time.
Giants are the real deal, barely got out of 2nd gear last night and will be relatively fresh having played in a very softly adjudicated final last night where we barely laid a glove on them.
You'd be sleeping like a baby because your team is shit.

For the first time in my life I want Collingwood to win a match. Collingwood v Carlton is what deep down every neutral fan wants. If we win against the Lions grand final week simply wouldn't have the same gravitas and magic and fairytale if it is "Carlton v GWS." But "Carlton v Collingwood" on the other hand is something special.

Pies, do your part.
Lol shouldn’t Carlton do there part considering they are massive underdogs???

Neutrals attending the game, buy a GWS jersey and help Coniglio get his 20k orange army.
All membership tickets brought by Collingwood fans. The break down will be 90,000 Collingwood fans, 1,000 gws and 4,000 neutrals. It will be a very similar atmosphere when the giants played Richmond. If the giants do not start well the pressure will get to them. Very daunting playing in front of 90,000 Collingwood fans. And the game is sold out!!
