Hawkins & Selwood are two of the most disliked footballers by other clubs supporters, but they should be two of the most admired imo.

They were massive for your club tonight & were head & shoulders above anyone else from Geelong.

I certainly wish they were in the Bulldogs side.

Too much was left for too few tonight & I fear that the likes of Mackie, Kelly & even Enright are close to the end.

I thought Duncan was mostly poor with a smattering of talented play. Very sad for his 100th.
Most of the boys were stuffed. Would've liked to have seen a bit more rolling rotations on resting them all for maybe one more game.
I agree on Duncan. I was desperately disappointed with his game. Totally butchered the ball on numerous occasions. I guess he was at least presenting.

And on Blicavs - yes, he was outclassed in the ruck, but he kept fighting and did what he could. around the ground Hardly the guy for anyone to pick as their scape-goat.

McCarthy almost a fairytale. Wish he'd started.

We looked rooted from the start, its been a draining season. Never been a bigger heart at Catland than Selwood, what a star. Hawkins was fantastic and Caddy super, but thats it. Fingers crossed Harvey gets a game just because he's a shit ball.

Walker, Caddy, Hawkins, Selwood, Varcoe, Lonergan, Rivers solid but the rest . . . bloody disappointing!

Horlin-Smith will make it but boy! He's as slow as a snail which is stating the bleeding obvious. Probably the slowest footballer I have ever seen and that's saying something given we've had Lingy grace the turf in recent years.

Knew we'd lose this one so it doesn't hurt and we did not deserve to be so close either. I wish Selwood kept all the young guys out on the field and sent the older guys into the rooms so they could feel the pain of losing another close final.
Duncan, where were you?
Motlop, Murdoch are worrying as this is not the first time they have shit themselves when the slightest bit of pressure is applied in September footy.

In and under, inside and outside, especially in the first 3/4, clearly our 4th best tonight

Plenty pointed out that getting rid of Pods and Chapman was idiotic when it happened. It's been proven as such time and time again this year. The club made a massive blunder. Accept it.
Not at all. Pods and Chapman would not have given us a premiership this year. Nor can they give us 10 years of football. The call had to be made eventually. Tough? Sure. Wrong? Nope.

Mackie and Kelly? Yes.
Enright? NO.

Joel Selwood is a freaking beast.

Apologies for intruding, but I've got nothing but respect for a captain who walks off the field with a bruised and swollen eye, head bandaged up. A player who gives nothing but a 110% for his club.

Absolute champion

It's good of you to give us back our positive.
Unlike the usual pooey coloured mentally challenged stalkers.
Kudos.

.

our two most important players by a country mile, just imagine our midfield without selwood

Aside from the effort and skills not being there until it was too late, the setups were all over the place. What on earth was happening in the defence? Every minute or so (sometimes more often than that) the ball was getting pumped in and each time a Geelong player would be on a different opponent. In many cases they seemed to be mismatches as well. They were completely lost out there. Entry into our forward line was terrible for the most part. Mackie and Enright lost all composure and ruined all attempts at attacking out of the defence. Midfield again terrible lack of pressure and poor defensive setups when things aren't going our way. Just an abysmal performance all round, didn't deserve one bit to win that game, margin hugely flattering.

Player assessment:
-Kelly needs to retire
-Mackie is soft as butter
-Enright was shaky as hell
-Stokes went missing
-Bartel only turned up for a cameo
-Motlop has no defensive game, doesn't seem to run both ways (maybe he was injured - if so, why pick him?)
-Taylor was all over the place, always in the wrong position, complete opposite of usual
-Varcoe did better than some with ball in hand, down on recent form though (not good enough)
-Duncan forgot how to kick and tackle after his early goal
-Rivers did ok when he was involved
-Blicavs tried hard, think he is improving still, but not enough involvement
-Guthrie didn't get near it and was second guessing himself with ball in hand
-Lonergan got caught behind too often and was lucky to not give away more frees
-Murdoch tried hard when he was in a contest (albeit without succeeding), didn't get to enough either
-Brown tried hard, needed to take some of those marks though
-Thurlow made a couple of 'not-quite' efforts, needs time
-GHS was good with ball in hand, didn't get enough of it at all
-Walker did some good work in the forward line, tried hard with mixed results in the ruck
-McCarthy played his role, unlucky again in front of goal, has potential
-Selwood was Selwood
-Hawkins stood up in the end, had a lot of poor delivery tonight
-Caddy was excellent

I have to disagree with you on Duncan. I thought he ran his guts out and got plenty of the ball over 4 quarters. We all see it differently though.
Duncan was clearly in our best 4 tonight.

Fair enough. He did some good things but I thought he was below his best so marked him down in my head. Could be coloured by the disappointment of the loss, too, I think :(

we can bury our head in the sand and ignore the issues that this team faces, and cling to the good years of the past, im sure the optimists will say that 2015 is our flag window and this year was irrelevant

we are a shell of a team that we used to be
Yep I said the same thing on page 1 or 2. Time to either reload (which I don't agree with as we have tried it... it hasn't worked) or rebuild properly like the Bulldogs or Saints. At least we don't have a compromised draft either.

Was till the last Qtr, missed 3 big tackles, broken way to easily, if he's going to be weak defensively needs to get more ball to compensate.

Agree that Duncan let a few important tackles slip but, while I was pissed off with him at the time because they looked 'soft', you could see as he attempted to make them that he was absolutely spent. Which is fair enough IMO, since he was one of the only blokes prepared to work his arse off forward and back for 4 quarters.
