We won the flag in 2010 by blooding only 1 new player and pretty much keeping our list constant throughout the entire year. As did Sydney last year, Geelong the year before. Just saying

We didn't win the flag because we only blooded one new player for the season. We won it because we had a squad of 30+ players that we knew we could pick from at the drop of a hat.

At the beginning of that particular season the likes of Reid, Brown, Beams, Sidebottom, Blair and Dawes were not walk up starts (much the same as the likes of Elliott, Sinclair, Kennedy, Thomas and Frost) yet 6 months later those 6 were keeping O'Bree, Lockyer, Anthony, Medhurst and Fraser out of a premiership team....

I ask what is the point of rejoicing in the quality of our depth only to bemoan our injuries when our depth is needed most?

FWIW Geelong debuted plenty of kids in 2011 and a couple of them became premiership players at the end of the year.

This is true. Depth is good not just for injuries, but for keeping competition healthy for spots. 2010 is a great example of that.

Elliot, Kennedy, Thomas, Sinclair, if played will most likely be fighting for the one position.
Reid, Brown and Dawes were KPP who were on the verge of breaking in, but not only that, finally delivering a spine worthy of winning a premiership. We don't have that kind of depth this year, we will be relying on keeping our most important and elite players fit.

Here is my match preview.

Was done before I had any knowledge of any potential Seedsman injury...but was able to amend it for Clinton Young.

I can't guarantee these on a weekly basis anymore due to my huge workload, but will do what I can.

enjoy

Just to add to this, club has made some amendments to remove Seedsman out as I am now aware of his injury.

On Dwyer and Frost...if you are just after some cover for r1 & 2 then they are great first up selections. I know I'll be getting Dwyer if there are no other forward rookies named.

But both will have next to no job security. Frost will be a week to week proposition depending on the opposition forward line and how many talls they have.

Dwyer is just on standby until Thomas, Fasolo, Young, Krakouer, Didak and Ball return. May only hold his spot for a week regardless how he plays.

Horrible news. For Seedsman, that is.

As MM would say, you just worry about the players that are out there, not the ones who aren't. Our squad is still pretty solid and I haven't changed my opinion re: result and scoreline.

Oh, and the comments re: Sinkers are just stinkers. Watch his game last year - he was one of the players actually getting space and making a play. He's tough, can kick, can find the footy and will now have enough responsibility to really step up to the plate. Expect an 18-20 disposal game with 1-2 goals.

As long as he's not running into a open goal that is.:p

I have Sinclair in our best 25 players, even when we have everyone fit, and most of that is due to what he does when he doesn't have the ball, more so than what he does when he's got it. He is one of, if not the most important player in our forward line if we are to get that manic forward pressure of 2010 back again. Because once everyone is fit (if that ever happens) we are going to have a few players up forward who aren't very defensive at all (Didak and Krakouer come to mind).

Sinclair plays until it is proven that his weakness once he gets the ball outweighs his tackling and pressure skills.

I don't know if you've overlooked this or not but most of the injuries we currently have are to players in their positions which is why their in line to get games! Fasolo, Krakouer, Didak and Thomas are all smalls that run through the forward half.

As it is their's no point going any further with this because as far as your concerned injuries have already derailed our season and it seems there's nothing anyone can post to convince you otherwise. Enjoy your negative outlook into round 1 :thumbsu:

Don't put words in my mouth. It's a genuine concern for myself and a lot of others that we are severely underdone for not only the beginning of the season, but 3 of the hardest rounds we will play this year. Sorry for worrying about the well being of the playing group. I never said the season had been derailed.

My comment regarding Sinclair is based on his NAB cup form. Many people commented on Elliott's improvement, but Sinclair seemed too light against bigger bodies. On this year's form, he is currently not a best 22 or even 25 player. If he can recapture the form he showed prior to his injury last year, he would be a useful player. I'd be surprised if he gets 20 possessions and 2 goals, but let's hope you are correct in your judgement of him. He is not actually under 180cm but just seems a smaller player than he is. With 8 of our best players injured, he is guaranteed selection in this game.

So it's pretty safe now to assume that Hudson, Frost and Dwyer will all be named in the 25 man squad.

You might say Hudson, what? But with Jolly still a little bit sore we need to name a backup ruck in the emergencies, so all three upgraded rookies will be named tonight in the 25 man squad I reckon.

As DaVe86 said though don't go putting them in your supercoach or dream teams yet, they are likely to lose their spots once our injured players return.

I don't mean to put words in your mouth and am sorry for doing so, but when you use provocative language such as shambles and then follow with comparisons to premiership sides it gives a strong indication that we're in big trouble when in reality we're in a similar position to both Grand Finalists and West Coast.

On the whole it's a worthy topic of discussion and I have no issue with it. It's more the overtly negative stance you've taken that's got to me.

FWIW our first 3 rounds is a piece of piss compared to our last month!

I would say Witts instead of Huddo in the 25. Huddo is playing VFL today whereas Wittsy is not. Surprise rd 1 debut on the cards?!

We can pretty much put a line through these guys for Sunday they're all on the park in the VFL practice match. Krakouer, Dale Thomas, Hudson, Kennedy, Richmond, Paine, Martin, Yagmoor, Oxley, Gault, Mooney.

I'll be shocked if Witts is named in the squad, and it would be a mistake too, he didn't look anything like ready to be our number one ruck if Jolly didn't get up for the game, so that's why I'd prefer Hudson as an emergency, even though he is playing today.

Yep sounds logical to me. I'd add further that if he is just a back up then it's a mistake. He, like Monney need games pumped into them.

Oxley sounds like he is having a really good game
Getting on the bandwagon early Blaze?
You gave him a decent wrap after his NAB cup IIRC.

Why is this happening again? All of these little injuries coming up just before Rd 1 and we start the season behind. 8 of our best 22 out. Let's hope this isn't a repeat of 2012.
