We lost to them last year because we allowed their 3 talls to kick 9 of their 13 goals. It's pretty simple really shut Petrie, Tarrant and Hansen down and they need to rely on their midfield and Thomas to do the damage.

Their midfield has improved, but with ours at full strength (minus only Thomas) they won't be able to attack through their as often as they'd like due to the massive risk of being opened up the other way. I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but Toovey didn't play against the Roos last time (which was a massive blow for us) so I expect him to go to Thomas and restrict him to 1-2 goals max. With Thomas shutdown, their three talls somewhat nullified and their midfield needing a balance of attack and defence, where do they get their score from?

With all that in mind even by going with the extra tall down back we will be sacrificing just one of Clarke and Johnson which would still leave us with Seedsman, O'Brien, Russell, Shaw and one of Johnson and Clarke as runners out of defense and 5 options is more than enough.

IMO we'll go with 3 talls and its definitely the right move!

Great point. The 3 talls (along with Cloke being pulverised by Thompson) were the difference last year so it makes sense to focus on them a bit more. It's horses for courses when selecting a side and with our improved depth we can change our structure more regularly this season to suit our needs against our opposition.

Cheers, thought so.

Surely he's best 22 when fit.

Yes, he is. He has had some set backs from the surgery and will probably be right net week or the week after. He is best 22 no matter what some people on this board may say.

Before the squad was announced I was worried that we were going to struggle to win this one, especially with the players who we have out, but once you anlayse that 22 it's still a bloody strong group;

Defense; Reid, Brown and Frost (I think he'll play) as the three defensive KPP's to cover the three North forward KPP's. Maxwell, Toovey, Shaw, Russell and O'Brien as our small and medium defenders (none of them are small, but they can play on smalls). And one of Johnson or Clarke to provide more run off half back. IT'S STILL A BLOODY GOOD BACKLINE.

Forward; Cloke and Lynch as the two big giants that should worry North's weakened defense. MaCaffer is the wildcard, I couldn't have been more impressed with the way he played pre season, he is the man that few are talking about. Add Goldsack, Elliott and Sinclair as the small/defensive forwards and it doesn't look so bad (small scoring forwards are probably our weakness this week, just like North).

Midfield; No Ball or Thomas, but we didn't have either for long periods last yet, yet still dominated games out of the middle. Pendles, Swan, Beams, Sidey, Blair and either Dwyer or JT shows it still has supreme depth, and of course there's others around the ground that always help out.

Rucks; Finally we have a Leigh Brown type once again, but he's actually better than Leigh Brown in that he can actually get the ball and influence the game up forward, welcome Q-Stick. Jolly is fit and raring to go, the fact we didn't even name an emergency shows that.

WE CAN DO THIS, GO PIES.:thumbsu: :)

Agree 3 talls too many in defense, unless Maxwell isn't playing. As game last night showed you need legs.
Don't agree the talls killed us last time specifically, we were pretty poor overall especially when we had the ball and our backs did restrict them to 13.
Should be a much less dour game Sunday though.

With all our talk of injuries, is it safe to say we are actually only missing 4 best 22 in ball, daisy, krak. and fas. Add 2 other possible best 25 in keeffe and didak.

Not a great situation, but not terrible with fas, Keefe and dids the only big/long term concerns. Does anyone actually know what's wrong with fas. I prob should check the injury thread.

Edit:I forgot Clinton young who i think is best 22 so injury situation bit worse than i thought. I suppose we don't really know what's going on with krak either. When will he be AFL ready?

Was originally his foot (was in a moon boot at Utah) then recovered and now it's his hammy that's causing him grief.

Our defence is stronger This time round compared to last time. In the last game we had Delaney and Thompson as our key backs. Grima didnt play and he is a significant upgrade on Delaney.

looking forward to the game and hoping its a close one!!

I'm all for having opposition fans posting on our board and love the fact that ours is just about the most open on the site, but jeez that video from HTB is one step too far IMO. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the content and I found it somewhat entertaining its simply the branding that I don't like!

We're on the Collingwood board and we have another clubs insignia as well as their sponsors in big lettering in that particular video. When I'm on the Collingwood board I like it to be Collingwood centric and that was all about the opposition..... Oh well just my little whinge.

We've had Maxwell and Bucks on our website this week too with all their sponsorship garb on. I think it's good cross promotion for the game.

Collingwoods starting midfield group: 651 games
Norths starting midfield group: 324 games

This is where the game will be won and lost.
You'd better hope not, even without Ball and Thomas our midfield it still close to the best in the league, your mob has to hope you can exploit us in other areas (run off half back) and with your tall forwards.

The stadium helps you too, there's no doubt it's your home ground, maybe more of an advantage there than any other Melbourne based side.

If you are you seriously suggesting that a minor example such as this is some kind of threat to Collingwoods identity, then you are being absurd.

It's game related clip in a game related thread on a very slow day.

As BE stated, we hosted your skipper on our club website earlier this week. No North supporter has raised issues about this, and personally, I think it's a good thing.

Here's the clip:

Pendlebury, Swan and Beams will have to have their influence negated or the rest of the match ups will not even matter.

I agree with the Docklands advantage. We are a chance to win this match, I would give us next to no chance of winning it at the MCG based upon our recent outdoor form.

Ah...the joy of corporate theology (for, 'tis based on blind faith rather than reason)...

By the bye...

Speakin' of cross promotion...who nailed ya with th' "Yellow Card?" (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

In fear of getting a follow up red I will say nothing but to say it was well deserved. -:(
