AFL Round 11 - MRP - Dale Thomas May Be Cited?

The cold sore thing is all good, but aren't we arguing over intentional rather than force? Am I missing something by thinking that evidence doesn't help Thomas in getting the strike downgraded to reckless?!
There are several factors that can get the decision downgraded from intentional to reckless.

Looks like we are trying to say Thomas thought the ball was there, and was trying to swat it away, which would basically mean any contact to Jones' head is then accidental and would fall under the "reckless" category.

The tribunals counsel isn't buying it though.

It's a ridiculous angle, but it is whether their is a wording or loophole in the tribunals terms for it to be deemed 'intentional'. I only say that because the MRP often go with reckless over intentional.

They didn't buy it

Mark Macgugan:
Tribunal is satisfied that the conduct was intentional, as assessed by the MRP. The level three offence stands. With deduction for his good record the offence is worth 168.75 points and he's out for a week.

Jones did not get patched up due to this incident...

Medical report from St Kilda doctor says Jones had a cold sore that was bleeding during the game. Jones didn't require any medical treatment as a result of Thomas' strike other than some vaseline being applied to his bleeding cold sore.
I lold hard at this

Damn, decision stands.

In the light of the evidence heard, had another look at the incident, and if you freeze it at the instant the blow lands, yes Daisy is looking at the ball and not at Jones' head.

However, the ball is about two to three metres away!

Correct decision sadly, as he would have been mega important vs the Dees.

Big danger game, we are majorly weakened now ( Jolly, Swan, Thomas, Beams) against a side bubbling with confidence after last week and who always seem to play their best games of the year against us.

Yeah, true, it was the correct decision in the end, but it still goes to show the inconsistency of the tribunal, considering Judd got nothing for an elbow, yet Campbell Brown gets 2 weeks for a king hit.

But you can always hope the MRP get it wrong, even in our case.;)

Stupid to challenge it; yes he's unlucky that the Tribunal finally dusted off the "intentional" classification, but it's still accurate. To challenge just makes us look like whingers and leaves Dale with more carry-over points.

Once the MRP deemed Daisys' contact as low impact and therefore enough force to constitute a strike, he was never going to beat the charge.

He made contact to Jones' cold sore. I didn't read anywhere that the MRP had that info. It only reported, Jones suffered a split lip from the incident. Anyone who's had one of those cold sores knows it only takes a poke and those things bleed.

I've watched it a few times and no doubt it was intentional to me and high contact but contact was very light.

Again, it is baffling how Judds' strike that opened up Pavlichs face was deemed insufficient force to constitute a strike.

Totally agree that the Tribunal and MRP are a complete joke, and Judd is a ridiculously protected species, but that doesn't change the fact that Dale deserved at least a week for that strike.

Did any of you find it at all strange that Thomas said that he was trying to hit the ball? Honestly I can't believe that they tried to use that line when the vision clearly shows the ball a good 1-2m away.

Felt like punching my screen when I saw Quarterbrain laughing on channel ten.Geez I hope we smash the sh!t out of Hawthorn so his miserable all week when doing the sports section.

Also was pretty stupid to appeal that.Think we wanted Daisy available after earlier in the day finding out Beamsy was gonna be out for a bit.

If St Nick misses a week or 2 with a groin injury it'll be odd.
They seem to be a friendly bunch over there.

Yep I thought it was pretty absurd TBH.

Though, the MRP are such an inconsistent joke, and given he was going to get a week either way, and given we are without Swan and Beams already, I guess they punted, with a low precentage, 'Why not!'

Maybe they were seduced by the vision of Douglas fooling the MRP completely and getting off, with such an obvious hip to the head with no intention of doing anything other than to clean that poor NM guy up.

Look at the vision **very** carefully, frame by frame...

Fact: Daisy is at least a few metres away from the ball.
Fact: Daisy is focused on the ball the whole time, his face a study of concentration, he is almost in a trance like state.
Fact: The ball changes direction in sync with his fist swinging.

What we're looking at here folks is evidence that Daisy has mastered the dark art of Telekinesis, remote thought control over the ball, mind over matter. Gee, when Mick was suggesting Daisy had taken his game to a whole new level he wasn't kidding.

Makes sense Collingwoodfc would try to seek justice without revealing the secret. Poor Daisy his been a victim here.

Needs to make sure next time his tagger's head isn't in the way ...
