AFL Round 13 Brisbane Lions V Adelaide Official Thread

This game probably takes on extra significance in that it is important to get a bit of confidence back after last week's drubbing. If we lose we will have fallen short against all top 5 teams. For us to take the next step we need to start beating a few of these top teams. Until we can do that we are only making up the numbers.

BRISBANE'S injury pain is at least another week from easing with Daniel Bradshaw, Travis Johnstone and Jason Roe out of Saturday's game.

errr... then he says:

Bradshaw, Roe and Johnstone were unable to complete training at Coorparoo last night and are in doubt for this weekend's clash with the Crows.

Interesting match this one. I think Bradshaw or no Bradshaw we should be able to score the goals needed to win this one. Brisbane to win based on the home ground advantage.:thumbsu:

If Roe is out, give Hendo a run in the forward line and bring Clark to be our link up man out of defense.

If Henderson cant kick goals lets make sure he stops Bock.

Adelaide Squad...interesting as they only have one specialist ruck in Maric, as Griffen is injured, and one part timer in Tippett..should mean that Charmo can really dominate

Collier! Hurrah! Straight into Roe's spot down back.

Clark to play as second ruck I imagine and float forward.

Copeland as a leading forward.

Interesting that Travis is in... must have been a very minor hamstring complaint.

Could Collier play as a dummy key forward and tag Bock? With Clark spending more time in the ruck. Very harsh on Stiller though.

Collier fits in nicely down back in Roe's spot.

Copeland more likely to play up forward as a leading target and defensive forward.

Polks gets another game.. Leigh needs to throw him in the thick of the action and give him some TOG.. Great to show some confidence in a young fella.. Although i didnt think Chinnys game was that bad..

Looks like Proud must continue to get used to being tagged in the QAFL... At least then when he gets to AFL he knows how to stop the tight techniques...

Berger out, is a dissapointment imo.. We could have used him in there and push Charmo forward.. Anyway overall pretty happy to see another debut.. (4th for the season)

I was hoping for Henderson instead of Collier as he has proven to play down back and if needed, we could have swung him up forward.

Lethal should be ashamed of himself dropping one of your best players from last week. Stiller had 25 touches and used the ball well.

Ashamed of himself?

Oh ____ off!

You don't know what role Stiller was given... I dare say he's been dropped for a reason.

Gill back for the crows good match up for Patful i reckon

B: Johncock, Rutten, Bassett
HB: McLeod, Bock, Doughty
C: van Berlo, Thompson, Knights
HF: Douglas, Gill, Vince

Good ins for us. In Gill we have a hard working CHF which straightens us up nicely, and along with Burton given us that extra bit of 'X-factor'. Rielly is underrated and slots into the midfield nicely. I'm hoping Maric has a good game and nullifies your quite large ruck advantage. I honestly can't see us losing this one, even up at the Gabba.

Crows by 15

Based on Adelaide's 3 seasoned inclusions (Gill has been around a while) and our outs and the probable out of Travis Johnstone coupled with the fact we have a few nobodies in our team (not in the derogatory sense (Polkinghorne, Collier)) but I don't see how we can possibly win this.

I hadn't even heard of the outs for the Crows, except for Griffen. With them omitting two kids (Otten, Mackay) the rest of their squad is relatively seasoned and ours looks very stretched. Our team selected for this week reminds me of teams b/w 05-07.

By all means I hope we win, but the Gabba hardly scares any team, the least of which includes the Crows who have won their past 2 there. To be honest, I just don't see it and can't believe that injuries again are threatening our season.

Good luck boys, think we will need every ounce of it. I am just wishing I got some of that $3.80 or whatever the Crows were paying - would easily have put down a few K with those odds considering both sides selected.

I share your lack of optimism, but if you look at the match thread for our game against West Coast last year, the situation is remarkably similar. (We had two first gamers in that one, Leuey and Hamill).

That game just shows that you never know.

I'd never be able to bring myself to bet against our boys no matter how juicy the odds were for the opposition.

But I hear what you're saying.....that $3.80 on offer for the Crows was clearly ridiculous, even if by some miracle Roe and Bradshaw had come up.

Adelaide should be clear favorites in my book:(

True....... but from memory, the Toasters also had one or two significant outs for that game. (Cousins and/or Kerr?). Playing at home and with the Lions record at Subi they probably still thought they were in for an easy day at the office.

I'm afraid there will be no chance of the Crows taking any complacency into this game, especially after their good showing against the Hawks last week, where they were stiff to lose after leading for nearly all of the game.

Therein lies the difference, I believe.

Yup agree with you tbd, Copeland as leading forward to give Clark a run through the middle. Our rucks seem to have the edge over there's but it's at either end where they look really strong.

We all know about their back-line, but with Burton and Gill in for them that really boosts their forward line. They've got height and flexibility with Tippett to go in the ruck and the bird man up the wing. All in all a pretty strong team.

We needed Collier in to cover one of their talls, he's a very good replacement for Roe. Hope we see some of what he's been showing in the ressies, love his dash and has pretty good disposal from what I've seen.

Polkinghorne kept his spot ahead of Stiller AND Harding. Must be something about match-ups/structure surely. He can be an option up forward for us as a small marking type, as well as go into the middle if need be. Leigh is showing a lot of faith in this kid, must see a lot to like about him.
