Cousins didn't play like the first 15 games that season, so it wasn't like he was out for just that game. From what I rememeber, Judd, Kerr and Priddis got heaps of it.

Fair 'nuff.

I was overseas at the time of that huge upset and the mind was a little befuddled from one or two too many Guinesses:eek:

Their forward line has too many options... I have faith in our backline to hold their own but they need support from the midfield this week.

We have to win the midfield battle to have a chance in this one.

Charman must fire!

Bushy is back!!!!

Hopefully he gets a good chance up forward to take some pressure off Brown and Clark, will be good to see Collier get a run too.

If Johnstone drops out, does Proud come in? If so, watch out Wynnum, Acuguy will be over the moon!

I remember a couple of years ago Marcus Allen was one of our few fit players on the senior list, but the Lions kept promoting rookies instead of playing him.

It's a similar thing with Proud - keeps getting named on the emergency list and just when you think he is due someone else jumps the cue.

Anyway good to see Collier get a run. He's a good replacement for Roe, but I thought Hammo said he was on light duties so I didn't think he was a chance.

BRISBANE'S injury pain is at least another week from easing with Daniel Bradshaw, Travis Johnstone and Jason Roe out of Saturday's game. The Lions have yet to field their best 22 this season and look like having to wait until after the split round (round 14) before they are at full strength.

Co-captain Nigel Lappin had hoped to push for selection in the reserves this week but walked off the track for treatment on his injured achilles tendon shortly after the session started last night.

Bradshaw, Scott Harding and Michael Rischitelli missed last Saturday's 63-point loss to the Bulldogs while Roe and Johnstone were injured during the match.

Rischitelli has recovered from a cork and is set to resume and Harding will press for selection after overcoming a sore knee.

But Bradshaw, Roe and Johnstone were unable to complete training at Coorparoo last night and are in doubt for this weekend's clash with the Crows. They did running drills away from the main group with first-year utility Tom Collier.

Lions coach Leigh Matthews said despite the importance of the clash, and the importance of Bradshaw and Johnstone to the team, he would not pick anyone who wasn't 100 per cent.

"We never play anyone we don't think is alright. If the medical people clear them, then the conditioning people have to clear them. If they both clear them, then we have to make the decision on whether they play," he said.

"Scott Harding didn't play on the weekend but he was virtually cleared to play by the conditioning people.

"We just weren't quite sure about how his knee would cope if he fell on it again. So we decided to leave him out of the team even though he had virtually been given the all-clear.

"That was one example of when the match committee made the decision."

Matthews said the cost of Bradshaw's absence could not be counted in goals alone.

"You can lose confidence in your forwards. If you're coming through the middle of the ground and your forwards are getting the ball then you will kick it in more readily," he said.

"However, if you kick the ball inside 50 and your forwards don't get it, the ball can bounce out the other side of the ground where your opponent is. Then you start thinking that you have to maintain possession and begin to second guess yourself. That cycle has and always will exist.

"We're not expecting or assuming Daniel will be right for this week either. I think he is extremely unlikely."

I wrote Copeland's career off prematurely, we need a hard leading option in the absence of Bradshaw. Will Copeland be the old style footballer that is handy in certain circumstances and hence is kept on the list?

Collier is a great inclusion, from what i have seen on AFLQtube he is going to be a tall dashing defender, i will never forget seeing Leppa play for the Wests in the qafl in the late90's as a defender and the way he dashed out of defence was a sight to behold. Collier looks a player!

I am not touching the Selwood issue apart from saying Matthews must have a good match up for him, not sure who because the Crows mids are strong overhead and Troy isn't.

I am glad Polks has been given another chance, i really like the way he moves, to me he looks like a very clean player with the ball, he seems to be a one touch footballer.

Stiller being dropped is interesting, i rate him highly and think confidence is his problem.

As for Proud, i am sure he will replace Johnstone in the selected side. TJ couldn't possibly come up after last week when he was only willing to kick on his non preferred side.

Watching AFL Teams on the TV and they had McDonald playing in the half back line complete with Beau's photo in the diagram

Oh! isn't it great to be flying under the radar

I'd never be able to bring myself to bet against our boys no matter how juicy the odds were for the opposition.

But I hear what you're saying.....that $3.80 on offer for the Crows was clearly ridiculous, even if by some miracle Roe and Bradshaw had come up.

Adelaide should be clear favorites in my book:(

I did it...spewing I didn't get on earlier in the week, but got Crows for $2.85. First time I have bet against the Lions. Either way, I will be a winner come Saturday night; a Lions win (although down a fair quid & if the mrs finds out, an earful) or alot of extra $$'s. I am sure it would be a shallow feeling though.

The philosophy is - Lions win....worth the money - Crows win.... you don't come away empty handed - almost a win/win position

I knew I wasn't going mental and had read that somewhere.

Good point. TJ must be really doubtful....and has been named in a forward pocket.

Gets named there alot. That said, I don't think he will play.

Albert Proud >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Marcus Allan

Jamie Charman - your time is now.

Up against one young and fairly average ruckman this week.

Another below par performance and he has to go.

Certainly is - and his hitout to advantage has to be much much much higher than it has been. For us to be any hope we're going to have to get the ball from the ruck contests - Charman has to ensure that - we were smashed last week after doing so well for the past few weeks.

If we can get back to this we're a third of the way there... Our back third is OK, its the front third which causes me the most concern for this week..

Very excited to see Collier's debut.

I'd bring in Henderson if TJ doesn't get up. Adds a third tall option in the forward line or someone else to try down back if required.

Our forward set up is the X Factor this week. Tippett, Gill, Burton, Porplyzia, Douglas, Jericho. Flair, unpredictability and major mobility there. Plus Goodwin, Vince and McLeod able to rotate through there. Looks somewhat potent for a change.

Maric had a good one last week and looks in pretty good nick and can take a good grab up forward. Tippet is learning the craft but should not be underestimated. Charman is a bit overrated in my book. That we smashed the hawks mids in clearances bodes well for this week.

Adelaide players are all deceptively strong overhead for their size like Voss was.

Charman will be close to our best on Saturday night, he loves the responsibility of rucking 85 percent of the game and i don't think he benefits at all from sharing the duties 60-40

Should leave no one on Tippett and entice them to kick it to him as he is little chance of kicking it:thumbsu:

:D He's just as likely to take some criticism onboard and kick a few this week.

I was right behind his first attempt on goal last week, twenty meters out, Joel Garner run up and dropped the ball from his chin...shocker.

He is competitive though and pretty handy below his knees for such a big bloke.

Top write up in the OP by the way:thumbsu:
