Good point

If you play and lose to Carlton which is a fair possibility than you not only have to beat those 3 teams mentioned but another team and dont get a rest in finals.
If we play and lose to Carlton in the preliminary final we are out for good.

im talking about the qualifying final. If you lose to carlton you have to play another team in the semis

when 2 vs 3

than whoever loses plays the winner of a team from 5-8 who wins in the elimination final

Yep but if we are still in the running and don't have to play this Carlton side which you seem to think is so dangerous again unless we meet in the grand final.

If we defeat Hawthorn in the qualifying final and come up against Carlton in the preliminary final and lose, we don't even make the grand final.

All i said is it is going to be better for Geelong if they finish first because they will get an easier run in finals. Sure they still have to beat the top 3 teams to win the flag. But id prefer to get an easy opponent in hawks, westcoast or sydney in melbourne and have a rest than playing carlton. Never know Carlton may choke in the finals and get bundled out and you get an easy prelim match, personally i would be chasing that option if i was Geelong.

Bartel cleared of any major brain damage but will likely not play this week still.

Whatever ends up happening, the eventual Premier will have earned it by playing some big matches on the G against powerful Victorian clubs.
We have good experience in that area, which is an advantage.

Carlton have really made a major step in the right direction this season haven't they. Their form is almost as good as Collingwood's yet this week will be a true test to see where they are at. If West Coast thought they had a shot at the premiers but came up short by over 8 goals then how will they go against the challenger? I reckon Carlton will be in for a tough match because they simply haven't got enough tall backman to cover 3 genuinly tall forwards. Which is a major reason why Geelong is still going to be the favourite if we have to play them in the finals. Pods, Vardy and Mooney or Pods, Mooney and Hawkins are all over 6ft 4 in height. The exact same reason why West Coast will stay in the game and either lose in a thriller or win it by 3 points. Carlton are good but remember we didn't exactly play to our full potential when we still won by a few points and the same could be said for Collingwood when they met before us. It's great how the hype is generated in the space of a month because of some big wins but suits Geelong because again...we found ourselves behind Collingwood and Hawthorn (if not for some injuries)and nearly on par with Carlton:D

Hawwwwwwwwwwwwkins! Rucking I guess?

After a week off due to injury?

Can any of the bench get taken off the team or is it only the bottom two or something?

I'd say Bartel will be a late out, surely? He needs a rest after that hard hit.

Excited to see Mitch Brown at FF! :D :thumbsu:

I think the final team should be:

Simpson, Wojcinski, Duncan, Byrnes (sub) EMG: Motlop, Hawkins, Varcoe

Varcoe keeps his spot if Bartel out.

Also, why was the Mitch Brown to debut thread moved in here? He deserves a thread of his own.

Surely Bartel and Kelly both doubtful....Kelly is only going to train tomorrow according to reports and i personally hope Jimmy is not risked in any way shape or form, but at Geelong we do have a reasonable approach to these things.

Byrnes and Christensen both definites for mine, i am also hoping that we see Big Dawson and Brown although this is unlikely with Gillies being named on the ground. Hawkins still needs some VFL time and i don't think Motlop is quite deserving of a place just yet. Gillies is the interesting one, he needs to show us what he can do because he has had a lot of negative press over the last season.

Congrats to Mitch for getting a game though I would have liked it if Vardy were in the team as well to allow Mitch to be the third tall as it stands if he lines up at FF Rutten will be his match up and IMO will monster him in one on ones
