Is that always the case? Gillies down back might be a smokescreen if they're looking to throw a wildcard on the half back flank.

Once players are named in the 18, they can't come out unless they're injured (of course injuries can be invented but you get my point). So yes, Gillies will play.

The real question will be the bench, I suspect Shannon will get one more week in the VFL unless Jimmy or Kelly don't make it to the line.

interesting week indeed....

Fantastic to see Brown in.. Expect to see Shagga be subbed in 3rd quarter if he plays... perfect fit for guy coming back to go full tilt for 2.5 quarters getting back to pace of game and then gets a rest for fresh legs if needed....

Big Daw would be good for spelling Otto - dont see room for Hawkins in this especially if he was labouring last week in the magoos....

Just awesome to see so much competition for the last 6 spots in our team....
Success these days is really defined by how good your "bottom" six are and depth is the key.... Just stellar to see us get so many km's into our bottom 6 this year on merit.... So good for the future both near and far....

Go Catters...

Go Catters...

very much looking forward to watching this game at 4am sunday morning london time.

One thing to remember is that Duncan was KO'd for a bit last week which may be behind him being named on the bench. Could come out also if he suffered after effects like Christensen did earlier in the year.

Some weird selection and positionings! Why risk Jimmy or James Kelly? If Mitch Duncan is fit enough to be selected, why isn't he in the run-on side? It'll be good to see Mitch Brown though!

It would be illuminating to compare this listed line-up against what actually lines up on Sunday

If they're not right they won't play. Conversely, if they pass all the tests, and we've got an extra day as it's Sunday, why shouldn't they play?

the only time I ever get up this early on a Sunday is to watch the Cats. Girlfriend thinks it's quite sad that I get up at this hour to stare at a computer screen but do you think I care.

Bought a year's subscription to ESPN for our TV last year in London... saw 3 games due to the vagaries of ESPN's scheduling on the service.... it was worth it :D

Still not sure why Duncan isn't starting with doubts over Jimmy and Kels. I'll be watching his game on the weekend to see what flaws the coaches are seeing in his game.
Mitch is coming along fine , I believe the Club will rest Mitch and Jimmy this week as a result of the star gazing they both endured. Very common to be NQR for a week or so after impact injuries to the scone. 12-0 , Adelaide at home............

Great to see Brown named. Ive been looking forward to seeing him play and liked what I saw at the trial game against ghe Power earlier in the year. Should be a good contest between him and Luke Thompson as I imagine Podsy will have the truck to deal with. Wouldn't mind seeing Simpson have a run as ruck/midfield is a weakness of the Crows that I reckon we can conver even with players out.

Hawkins made the cut which I don't agree with, but anyway.

Simpson Byrnes and Motlop the emergencies.

Reckon Bartel won't play and Shannon will come in for his 100th, maybe as the sub.

Motlop the other inclusion you would think if Kelly's not right.

I reckon they will sub off Podsiadly if we have built a lead, he has carried a huge load this year, Hawkins gives them some flexibility that Simpson does not.

Does this mean the banner will read -

Congratulations [maybe] Shannon Byrnes on 100 games ?

I was thinking the same thing, poor cheer squad won't know what to do because he'll probably play but it'll look silly if they do the banner and then he doesn't:D

While I agree with subbing Podsy off (although we may not have a massive lead to be able to do it) I reckon Simpson gives you more flexibility because that then allows Otto to go to to FF and be dangerous. Also with Otto Hawk gives less flexibility because Otto has to do a lot of ruck time because Hawk gets clearly beaten when rucking, whereas Simpson would not as much, so either with Otto or Pods, Simpson gives you more flexibility.

I suppose they consider Hawkins the most like for like replacement for Vardy but I disagree because Hawkins is not as good in the ruck, I think we need a good ruckman more than a good forward, given our midfield outs. Anyway we'll see how it goes.

Now that the final team has been named, I can officially say congrats to Mitch Brown on his senior debut, here's hoping the young guy finally has something go right for him and makes the most of this chance :thumbsu:

Thinking the same thing actually, not sure we need another big forward as much as a genuine ruckman.

Not a bad side given the circumstances, even with Byrnes in for Bartel which will surely happen you'd think.

Apart from Hawkins in ahead of Simpson the only gripe I have is Gillies, quite happy to be proven wrong but IMO the blokes nowhere near AFL standard.

hawk back up for otto??
I really hope Tom grabs this opportunity by the scruff of the neck and gives it warp factor 3 , 3 weeks out of the 1's might show us how much he wants it. Can't wait to see how Mitch Brown performs , keeping the lid on but could just be the missing ingredient our Forwardline needs.

Hawkins gets dropped, plays shit in the VFL, has a week off injured, then recalled.

Simpson played well against an AFL standard ruckman in the VFL and Hawk gets in ahead of him.

Added to the Gillies one already discussed, quite perplexing.

Perhaps they want their second ruckman to be able to go forward.

I know it's very easy for us all to look at things in such a black and white manner but the reality is that none of us know what the club wants from the backup tall this week, let alone what they've expected from the major candidates in recent VFL games.

If there is any doubt with Bartel playing, I don't understand why he would be named. We are on top without a loss, playing a bottom 8 side at home. We shouldn't be risking anyone. I've never liked it when teams do this, when they are well aware of making a late change.

Big games are in order for Hawkins and Varcoe, if they want to be in this team in the second half of the year.

Your coach was on radio here earlier, he seems pretty confident that Jimmy and Kelly will get up, I don't think there will be a late change.
