Quite a few passengers were exposed for WCE last night.

Ryan and Rioli are one way.

- Ryan doesn't even understand when not to fly for a mark. He stuffed up two Natanui marks in the goal square. Dumb footballer.
- Rioli is all "look at me".
- That McInnes kid has a crack, but he can't kick. Woeful ball drop.
- Lycett is another dumb footballer.

Despite all this, if they had kicked straight, they still could have won the match.

I dont subscribe to the theory about the umpires.
Where in the rule book does it say that frees need to be equal?
If the frees are there the umpires job is to pay them.

The fact that needs to be discussed is that if the frees where there to give and what ones they missed?

The free kick total dosnt need to be equal.
Anyone that thinks that is just a sook that cant cope with losing.

You did watch the game, didn't you?

well done bombers, a glorious win and I tipped you lot. nice.
west coast reality check and will they keep calling nicnat a star? he is anything but. just an average footballer taking the piss with the exposure and money he is raking in.
rioli exposed as a front runner and eagles depth exposed.
whist bombers looked explosive the eagles were all so slow.
eagles looking very fragile and would be happy for their booming start to the season. just might keep them in the eight.

No it doesn't have to be equal. But it's ludicrous when the team getting smashed in play, has hardly got the ball, is last to the contest, wins the free kick count by a whopping margin. It's inexplicable in that context.

It was bad, but no worse than what is seen most weeks in the AFL, so let's not go making a memorial out of this one.

The bombres leg speed dropped off very quickly after quarter time, this is where the eagles got back in to the match, then let themselves down with some appalling goal kicking, and all round general dumb football..

I expect the bombres will be sitting in the ice baths until at least Thursday. Smith, Green, Merrett & Redman were all very proppy before the final siren.

If you watch the game, a lot of free-kicks were being called in the eagles forward half of the ground, the play kept stopping because of free kicks. Nothing to do with leg speed or fitness, if you paid attention.

I paid attention alright, and I know what I saw.

I acknowledge the poor umpiring, but you need to acknowledge that the bombres run and gun basically stopped also. They weren't related.

Richmond are arguably the team which is the hardest at the contest and are at the bottom of the free kick differential.
Going in hard usually ends up with giving away frees such as too high or in the back.

They weren't related??

33 free kicks, mostly in the 2nd half, isn't related to the stop of free-flowing football?

what planet are you living on.

You're making a biased assumption upon a stat you haven't even broken down.

Nic nat was the only player on the ground to not take a mark...that is incredible
He got one, I saw the replay, was right on his chest

Oh wait no that was Bellchambers palm before NicNat dived

even the commentators are onto him. he made some awkward decisions that he should be held accountable for...please explain dean.

He panics, stuffs up, and then panics trying to even up the stuff up.

Does not have the psychological temperament to umpire at ANY level.

Schmitts another one like that. Woeful.

There's only one logical answer re. the umpiring farce last night. 8 umps instead of 4, with the extra 4 mirroring the main 4 but positioned on the boundary side of the play.
That way, 1) no more howlers where an obvious mark is missed by 4 umps somehow all having no vision of it, and 2) Eagles can quadruple the opposition instead of just doubling them in the free kick count, resulting in a closer final score last night.
Based on that game I would actually like 18 umps so that we have one for every position on the ground, plus potentially another couple for picking up infringements by the visiting team's runners and boundary staff, but one step at a time obviously ...

Seriously though, yes it's true that a fair game does not necessitate an equal free kick count, and Essendon were sloppier than us in giving them away, but even as a fan in the stands desperate for any signs of life from the Eagles last night, I thought that was a piss-take.

OK so the WCE get more than their share of frees at home. Will the AFL do anything?? :p

Their solution to umpiring issues is to introduce a bunch of half arsed ill-thought through rule/interpretation changes that lead to more problems than they solve. Just suck it up when you go West (including Freo going, well, actually East from Freo), you'll get a spanking from the umps.

Have to respect the AFL for their consistency at least. Their solution to EVERYTHING is knee-jerk, ill-thought through changes.

Let's celebrate...

Nick Riewoldt made a good point after the game re: frees. The team who wins the contested ball generally wins more frees, being first to the ball and all that. Essendon won contested ball 143-127. Lost the free kick count 33-17.

Was pretty amusing listening to the Eagles fans boo their 4 best players off the ground. Poor bastards gave their all and still couldn't get love from the crowd.
