That "average defence" has statistically been in the top 3 all year, and #1 since rd.5 or so (basically once we got a 2nd ruck).

Our midfield is still way down, whether that's a result of no true tap-ruckman (Taylor/Bailey), or a matter of strategy (Taylor first game back, will know in a fortnight or so) remains to be seen.

Since then you got beaten by Essendon and West Coast, then beat Richmond, Carlton, Sydney, Port, Adelaide, Essendon, then the Bulldogs (just) and today a loss.

In other words, if we look at the current ladder, apart from beating the #5 team you have lost to #16 and #12 then beaten #15, #6, #8, #13, #10 and #12. So whatever defensive stats you have racked up in that time, they haven't been against Saints/Pies/Cats/Freo.

Hawks are going all right but I have heard a bit too much from my Hawk fan associates about the recent "streak", when in reality you've beaten some very average teams, scraped home against the Dogs and then lost to the Cats. You play the Saints and Pies before the end of the season, so those games will be more indicative of where you're at.

Let's also not forget Geelong was missing its two best forwards (in terms of goals/year) in the form of Moons and Johnson, as well as Hawkins, Joel Corey and Max Rooke.

2 kicks (one clanger, one goal assist), 19 handballs (12 in 1-2's, 6 to a ballup or turnover). I understand it's his role, and is used to get an overlap man through, but people tend to judge the game on stats. His 35 (?), were certainly less valuable than for example Rioli's 20-odd.

So I guess he handballed through that round the body goal in the second term?

Rioli was ok but far from living up the his alleged greatness IMHO. Would take Ablett's game any day.

I actually think we'd have been better if Mooney and Hawkins were playing. No disrespect to them, but we had blokes like Schoenmakers (196cm) playing on Stokes or Byrnes (guessing <180cm) - we were just too tall down back (ironically).

I do agree in principle though, our defence isn't great, but it isn't the weakness it's made out to be (conversely our forwardline is dramatically over-rated due to the individuals in it).

Guerra tackles Chapman around neck - clear free kick.

What does Chapman do? Clutch face.

Pathetic, playacting cheat. Imagine if that happened in the world cup.

YOU'RE A DISGRACE CHAPMAN.

Bit rich coming from a Saints fan, or have you forgotten when Ling gave Milne a love tap to the bread basket in the grand final, and the tip rat went down clutching his face?
