Re: AFL Round 4 - Geelong v Richmond, Simonds Stadium, 1:10PM Sunday 22 April

Krock said there was a report of West being reported in 1st qtr....

No further mention at all or online....

Any info?

Go Catters..

I remember the incident; don't remember who the opponent was. It was on their forward flank, a bump which looked like contact to the head (didn't see a replay of it though). Free kick was paid. Wait and see, I guess.

IF Simpson can come back, along with Menzel in the forward line, and make a difference in the ruck - we could yet be a contender.
Why are people investing faith in Simpson? What has he shown at either AFL or VFL to suggest he's going to make any sort of serious impact in our midfield?

If size = clearances then there's a bloke by the name of Orren Stephenson available.

Did a goal/boundary/emergency umpire make the report? Surely if one of the three central umpires made the report, we would have received the free kick?

Not sure... I heard about the report on the Richmond board... but can't find info on it anywhere though.

AFL site only mentions West's report.

There has been a fair bit of niggle in most of the games so far. We need to reel it in IMO, frustration only takes you so far especially if your getting reported for it.

Orren's big but Simpson is enormous, plus I hear his athleticism is more West-like than not. Still, you are correct; he's only played a few games (1?) and is as yet unproven. Does seem to have all the tools though and we haven't had a super-sized ruck since Street (and he was more beanpole than man mountain).

Sandilands is 211 and about 125kg; Simpson's reportedly 208-10 and must be pushing 110-115. That's BIG. His contested work, like Ottens, is apparently a strength too. Ottens held up many a pack in his day, hopefully Simpson can do likewise.

Re: AFL Round 4 - Geelong v Richmond, Simonds Stadium, 1:10PM Sunday 22 April

What a fun day at the footy, sitting between the two cheersquads. Have to say Richmond's cheersquad is full of the most one eyed, idiotic fans I've ever had the misfortune to come across.

The whole day they were questioning the gender of some members of the Geelong cheersquad (but stopped that when I asked if the person making the inquiry was interested in them), kept saying they're from the MCG (they're actually from Punt Road) and then asked Geelong supporters if we knew the words to our song, when the only words they know of theirs are the words "Yellow and Black", or at least they're the only words they sing of it.

The kicker came after Geelong's cheersquad had finished a chant, and then the Richmond cheersquad started one saying they couldn't hear the Geelong cheersquad singing, and accusing us of only singing when we're winning. Was hilarious after the game when all the Geelong fans in the vicinity turned around and sang the song with gusto right in their faces. :D

The report was for the bump he laid when a tiger threw his head back.

Duno how any supporters are pleased with that game.

That was a very dissapointing win, a worse performance than last week.

Luckily richmond are shitter than north.

We need our players back and chapman corey and taylor dropped.

Absolutely horrible game from the cats.

Horrible is a relative term in footy. If this was last year with the team we had, I'd label it a horrible win. With the cattle we have available at the moment and the form of some of those we do have, I think any win is good.

I think we just need a big bodied first ruckman who is seriously competitive - and might help the midfield. If its Orren - great - but think we are better off having two possibilities - so Simpson will at least give depth and competition to Orren.

From limited viewing I reckon Simpson could be ok but no pre-season may mean he could take a long time to get some form up in the VFL - and be AFL ready.

Re: AFL Round 4 - Geelong v Richmond, Simonds Stadium, 1:10PM Sunday 22 April

We are struggling but there is a fair bit of upside. We are missing a few but getting games into the kids. West needs a hand, it is just too much to have one ruckman battling two most weeks. The big issue at present is that with Lingy gone we are one big, strong body down at the clearances as well as freeing up one of the oppositions best. Very impressed with Motlop but not convinced with Gillies. Seems a little slow and seems to get caught in the wrong spots a bit.

It was just lucky we converted well.

Around the ground we were as weak as piss.

Hanging back off packs and not being prepared to run and chase.

Lazy equals horrible, regardless of the scoreboard.

K Rock gave Taylor BOG. Selwood 2, Lonergan 1.

The Taylor call is a shocker.

The other two understandable.

Still prefer Chappy in the forward line to Duncan, Stokes or Byrnes though.

Re: AFL Round 4 - Geelong v Richmond, Simonds Stadium, 1:10PM Sunday 22 April

We won, got 4 points, beat Richmond who have improved, while we are lacking several key players. Our midfield was predictably slower than Richmond, but in the last/4 when the game had to be won, Enright, Chappy and Stringer stood up, a statement of where we're at. I'm very happy just to get a win, it could easily not have been. Each win, ugly or not , is 4 points. That is all.. Not The Governor.

I now remember what it feels like to be a cats supporter circa 2004

He barely hit a target all day and consistently chose the wrong option.

What makes it worse is he got so much of it.

Just saying how i saw it.

Poor call. Abysmal call.

Taylor was one of, if not our best today. Game high possessions while playing at centre half back.

If you'd have said SJ, I'd agree with you. He was one of Richmond's best today. That pass to no-one in the pocket when he was 35-40m out directly in front was mind boggling to say the least. I think Richmond ran it down the ground and goaled from it too.

I'd nearly go as far as to drop SJ this week and put someone in who is going to have a dip and use the ball properly instead of trying something that was never going to work. He might've had 21 touches, but 14 of them were ineffective. In a close game, that could've been costly.

Re: AFL Round 4 - Geelong v Richmond, Simonds Stadium, 1:10PM Sunday 22 April

I think Corey is just hanging on

His disposal has always been his achilles heel but has been able to get away with it because of the sheer will and amount of hard balls he gets.

thats dropped off now. Unsure whether the team can carry him that much longer.

Agree totally, sad but true.

Harry Taylor - 29 possessions at 79% efficiency.

Yeah, he was really wasteful with it.

Why the **** would you drop Harry Taylor? Who's coming in for him, the tooth fairy?

He wasn't that bad.
