Freo are basically pinning their hopes on Young, Serong and Henry dominating and Aish and Acres somehow finding another level because they have compromised their draft next year and lost Hill and Langdon.

2020 will still be painful for Freo but I suspect 2021 will be when it all comes together.

Don't think people realise we have very little currency.

We have already gotten the best player in the trade period (top 20 or in the AFL) how much currency did posters think we would have left?

Don't know why people are getting so worked up. Even the 'dream target' Robertson has a heap of flaws in his game which would not work with our current gameplan at all.

Would have happily forgone all the picks in this draft if it meant Tim Kelly wore blue and gold. No point hoarding draft picks when a ready made elite talent wants to join that addresses a weakness immediately for a side in a premiership window.

Just a bugger we stand little chance of Will Gould still being on the board when we get our first pick. Immediate replacement for Bunga.

Hill was a soft as butter outside mid who squibs contests and loses 1 on 1s every week . Sure he was a running machine but against a good side he doesnt get the room he needs

Langdon is an outside butcher who may be quick but burns his team with bad turnovers .

The fact they were top 5 players at freo is more a sign of freos poor list rather than being exceptional players.

They will be better off in the long run without them .

Short term pain .

What is more concerning is all the young vic lads they have bought in . If their culture doesnt change with longmuir they may lose a few for a loss

Would love to sell you some real estate given this apparent “price is immaterial” approach.

Does that mean it’s bidding before 40 and automatically ours after 40?

I think this is how it would work;
Not my words (cut and paste..)

If a rival club wanted to select the player before pick 40, they would get access to them under current rules as though the player is part of the open pool.

But clubs believe under the revised system, if a rival was keen on the player from pick No.40 onwards, they would have to go through the father-son and Academy bidding process

For instance, using last year's draft as an example, Izak Rankine, who was pick No.3 from West Adelaide, and Ian 'Bobby' Hill, who was pick 23 from Perth, would not have qualified because the indigenous pair were selected before pick 40.

The steak knives of the Kelly deal was pick 33 going to Geelong with pick 52 and their future 3rd coming back to us. We then combined pick 52 with what was then pick 64 for 46 and the infamous 91 (which may end up actually being around 64)

Geelong then combined pick 33 with 57 to get 37 and 52 Essendon. Pick 37 was traded to the Crows for Josh Jenkin (and the Suns future 3rd). As an example of Wells ****wittery pick 52 they won’t even use so could have traded it to St Kilda for Steven but gave them 58 instead

Ideally we can get back to a mid 30’s pick by trading up with that future 3rd from Geelong and we can not worry about who we missed by including pick 33 in the Kelly trade

(And that Jenkins turns out to be an abject failure at ooga booga stadium such that Geelong ultimately wasted that pick)
