Andrew Lovett - suspended indefinately

Fact is that Lovett has been a bad egg for sometime, with a list of misdemeanour's, but he was allowed to continue on down the same path for far too long.

Care to explain?

So clear and precise with your comments. You must know a hell of a lot as to how Lovett was counselled and what attempts were made to reform his behaviour.

Elaborate.....

If you are referring to the Milne/Montagna issue,. then yes. The club fully co-operated with the investigation, as they've done today.

Co-operating with the police is a legal requirement, its the least you'd expect.

They didnt indefinitely suspend those two but they did Lovett.

Why the different approach?

Can we not turn this into another Pies v Saints pissing contest please?

Ball is at Collingwood and that's it. Get over it Saints fans.

Lovett was a bad egg coming into the club and I don't think it's fair to put this on our "culture". Obviously he was given way too much rope at Essendon and being that it's the off season and thus a little harder for the Saints to look out for him, he has managed to tie a noose for himself.

If he is guilty then I will be a upset as anyone. I wrote to the club during the Milne/Montagna thing saying that if they were found guilty and retained on the list then I would no longer be a member. The charges were dropped and most of us moved on. The same thing applies here.

If he is guilty I would be expecting the club to cut him right away. If he is innocent then everyone who has slammed the Saints and Lovett will need to come back and apologise.

It's honestly getting to the point of stupidity now. Everything that a player does is now open for slander by fans. The Carlton boat incident sounds bad but if Casboult is anything like most 19-20 year olds it was probably his idea!

Fast action by the Saints. I hate to think what the hell has happened here.

Sad sad stuff for all concerned.
The lady involved, his family, the club, supporters, afl and of course him. He appears to have serious issues and in need of help asap.

Lovett had a prior indiscretion with us, (and several with Essendon), and was in effect on a warning. Not the case with Milne/Montagna, who in the end had no charges laid (insuffucient evidence to sustain any charge was the reason cited IIRC).

Not the same circumstances.

And yes, I agree, co-operation with the authorities is the absolute minimum standard.

Are you suggesting that he never had an intervention order against him from his ex-girlfriend, never broke the said order, was never accused of assault, never caught driving without a licence, wasn't disciplined for missing curfews and training sessions?

Andrew Lovett has been out of control for sometime.

One rule for Victorian clubs and another for the rest I see. About time something was done I say. The culture in the state of Victoria is rotten and isnt just down to one or two clubs anymore.

I for one am not putting on StKilda's culture. They've tried really hard to turn it around after letting players off lightly in the past.

But I certainly am questioning their recruiting. They stuffed up just about everything they could have stuffed up this year. Lovett brought with him the culture that they spent the last 5 years getting rid of. It was a recipe for disaster and the only surprise is how quickly it has all gone pear-shaped.

I'm hearing you Timmy.

I think that with the success of Gardiner and Cousins getting fresh starts and with how well Barry Hall played for 4-5 years when he first got to the Swans Lyon felt that anyone could be changed.

I'll admit to being stoked when we got him because I thought (and still do think) that he can be turned around. There is no denying his talent, we just need to get him focused.

Just wondering, happened at the Storm too I believe, but...

Why the immediate 'indefinite suspension' if there has to be a belief in innocence until proven guilty? Why can't the Saints come out and say, 'look, Andrew says he is innocent, and the law states he is until proven otherwise, so he'll train as per usual'.

I think it's a club image thing. If he was to continue training and then it came out he was guilty the club would be slammed left, right and center for allowing to to stay with the group.

If it turns out he is innocent they can simply say they were allowing him to handle the matter without the pressure of training and performing at the club. Due diligence is the 'in' thing in footy right now.

I think the Lovett move had the potential to be spectacularly good or bad. In reality, we don't know which it will be.

If the Lovett experiment fails then Ross Lyon has stuffed up big time. They would have effectively traded two grand final players Luke Ball and Xaveir Clarke; and their first round pick for nothing.

If Ball had of stayed and Lovett paid off it may have been a masterstroke but I suspect that this could possibly end any chance the Saints have in 2010.

Culture is not just about how you enforce your rules but the types of people you recruit. The Saints made a decision to recruit a player with a history of bad behaviour and that in itself is an example of their culture. Its okay as long as he is good.

And if this was Grand Final week?

Is that a serious question? You're asking me how recruiting Lovett has gone pear-shaped?

Oh sorry I thought you meant everything had become pear shaped when you said "all"
Lovett was a risk , a risk that failed and hope the club sacks him.
(mind you I would like to see what has actually taken place first.)

This is an alleged assault. Lovett has not yet been charged, nor convicted. Can we please uphold the "innocent until proven guilty" line just for once.

And it would be nice if the Milne and Montagna incident was not brought out of the dustbin of history again. Despite what people might suspect, the two were never convicted of any offence and they have to be given the benefit of the doubt.
