Yeah sure some don't need it to be successful.
Well then seems silly of you to weigh in right after that post saying Burge was wrong then and create this 2 pages of nonsense.

The more B-man talked about it, the more he focussed on popular performers without degrees.
Well yes your tangents, semantics and moving the goal posts worked well on him.

Is that your main yardstick when you think about the value of a university degree?
Tangents, semantics and moving the goal posts aren't going to work on me though.

No, I didn't say he was wrong. I questioned whether he was right. As the one making the claim, it's his turn to provide evidence.

I didn't clarify that my question was based only on my scope of what a successful performer is. That's on me.

He then clarified his scope (in relation to music) as charting musical acts - which is a different ball game to just "successful", from my point of view - of which he doubted any AT ALL had a degree, which is provably wrong.

Well yes your tangents, semantics and moving the goal posts worked well on him.

What tangents? Semantics are important if we're people who do not know each others frames of reference.

In response to my scepticism about one point - which was an argument against the value of taxpayer-funded tertiary study for musicians and other performing arts - he narrowed it to charting musical acts.

Are charting musical acts the only examples of successful musicians? No.

Tangents, semantics and moving the goal posts aren't going to work on me though.

Good God. The CENTRAL POINT of discussion was about value of Uni degrees.

The measure of that value is key to that argument. B13 claimed music, dance etc had no value because nobody successful in that field had one. This is not correct. Many people needed study in music, film, drama, dance in order to be successful.

(/\ Edited)

Let's take Computer Science degrees. You don't need one to become a successful programmer. Well paid, nice lifestyle, money into super and other investments.

Are CS degrees valueless to the economy because you can watch the Harvard CS course on YouTube? Of course not.

Albo's looking pretty comfortable honestly. You won't see any big moves on the culture war stuff, but his government have always kept their eye on the economic fundamentals. Two Budget surpluses, low unemployment, avoided recession, and interest rates on the verge on coming down...honestly it cannot be underestimated how bloody hard it is to manage all of that. They haven't racked up huge debt over the last few years so they will have enough leeway to bring out a big vote cost of living winner policy, and then you're well on your way to another term. The one thing they are missing is some sort of future building policy that will make people feel some sort of hope that society is getting better, two risky options that I think they should take would be to simply ban gambling advertising and limit negative gearing to your first two investment properties and grandfather in all existing arrangement...a tiny tiny change in the scheme of things but it's all about the symbol of slaughtering the sacred cow.

A lesson for Albo today. If you do not get control of immigration, you are at high risk of being turfed out.

Migrants are the biggest supporters of restricted migration.
Will I regret asking if immigration in Australia is out of control?

Migration is in no way an issue here. There was a large peak post covid to appease all the small businesses desperate to fill the job vacancies the locals refused to do, and things have settled back down now. They will go down even further with caps on international students.
Our version of the immigration is boat people.

I don’t think our factions hate each other as much as in the US… YET

Hellipuva motivation to vote to see a group targeted and scapegoated

But did I just hear trump twice say it’s ok for people if they go there illegally? Senility?

I reckon he’ll make a big show theat it’s happening, but very little will change.

This presidency’s ‘build a wall’

Border Force would disagree.
Border Force think finding people who overstay their visa is good telly?
Dutton tried to make the High Court's release of asylum seekers a safety issue, but overegged it when it was revealed he personally let an asylum seeker convicted of r@pe reapply for a visa rather than removing him from the country.

I mean they find people of colour bringing in drugs and food good TV.

Don't forget about the au pairs that Dutton let it for mates that may or may not have been involved in sex trafficking.

Aren’t those sniffer dogs wonderful?
Friend of mine's ex wife worked in Customs at Heathrow and they inherited a retired drug sniffer dog called Brandy who could be very embarrassing at times when she'd take an interest in random passers by.

Imagine thinking our immigration numbers are sustainable. FMD you people will blindly cheer your team on anything
Only way to hold off recession is to bring in more people. Nobody is going to turn off that tap.

We were in a recession anyway. More and more people can't afford to do anything due to inflation. Homelessness/living under the poverty line rising

They won't label it a 'recession' but is whatever has happened the last 2-3 years any better? You couldn't confidently say so

I'm not advocating for it, it's just how it is in the current capitalist system.
