Anthony Albanese - How long? -2-

Friend of mine's ex wife worked in Customs at Heathrow and they inherited a retired drug sniffer dog called Brandy who could be very embarrassing at times when she'd take an interest in random passers by.
I can picture Albo doing that. Has no idea what he's doing but keeps at it.
Imagine it, a miniature Albo humping Trumpy's leg.

A lesson for Albo today. If you do not get control of immigration, you are at high risk of being turfed out.

Migrants are the biggest supporters of restricted migration.
Incorrect. The lesson is to not let immigrants be the scapegoat for corporate profiteering.

If you don't identify the problem, or any solutions, then it leaves the door wide open for the wrong solutions to be proposed.

Do something about medium and low income earners and the cost of living, or you'll be turfed out for somebody who will say they will.

The fact of the matter is, that to get a positive deal out of Trump, you need to blow smoke up his ar$e.

It would be remiss of us not to. We just shook hands with the conquering monarchy of Australia, it's not a big stretch to blow smoke up the orange buffoon who was at least democratically elected.

We can all think he's stupid, but as long as we don't say it to his face, we'll get a better outcome.

Maybe we do make this trend on Twitter though.....

"Hey Trump you big orange buffoon, too bad you can't take away our awesome AUKUS deal, we really did one over on you there, tiny brain."

We were in a recession anyway. More and more people can't afford to do anything due to inflation. Homelessness/living under the poverty line rising

They won't label it a 'recession' but is whatever has happened the last 2-3 years any better? You couldn't confidently say so
Quite right, if the ALP goes to the next election with everybody (below the top 10%) so much worse off, as they are today, than 3 years ago, and pretends they're doing a good job, like the Dems did, they will lose, bigger than Harris.

It seems they're incapable of seeing the problem and doing something about it because they're so worried about upsetting anybody.

The other thing that separates Trump from the Dems/ALP is that he's not afraid to upset people. Albanese needs to tell rich people to suck it up and that their CGT discounts are gone, that the corporate tax rate and MRRT is going back up and taxes on middle and lower classes are going down. If he does that, he might win, if he doesn't do anything for low and middle income earners before the next election, he's done. Given the next election will be before the next budget is enacted in July 2025, I think it's too late for them.

Albo doesn't need to do very much to beat that other clown and yet the sense is he still won't manage to do it

Feel it's been a very tough couple of weeks for Albanese in an electoral sense.

The one key thing Trump campaigns on that resonates is being an outsider. Taking on the political class, draining the swamp of the privileged political elites who do nothing for real people and are completely out of touch. It's all bullshit of course, he's one of the mega-rich elites himself and he's not going to do anything, but it lands in a world where all the political class, left or right, are seen as out of touch elites.

This is important because Dutton will copy it and amp it up. He's a Trump-style bullshitter.

A career politician like Albanese is vulnerable on this front and the Qantas shit feeds into it - he's an elite who swans around getting his freebies from his leech CEO mates.

He's going to need to campaign hard on things that actually land on easing costs and housing difficulty.

And do something loud that will shut down the elitist look - eg, ban his whole party from flying business class domestically. Full stop. Ban them all from airline lounges unless they pay for memberships themselves. Be loud and simple and take Dutton on with this crap.

I'm not sure he has it in him. In fact, I’m almost sure he doesn’t.

Dutton though doesn't have the personality to pull it off.

If I was in his position I'd hand back the chairman's club membership.

You can almost see where the narrative is going to take us from here, we don't like Dutton but Albanese is so terrible...

The problem for Albanese is (I’m fairly certain) he’s extremely out of touch when it comes to doing simple, solid things that will resonate and make him look like a strong leader.

On the airline stuff -

1) Load up on all the examples of LNP taking the piss on upgrades so it’s not just an Albanese story

2) Ban his own party from flying business class. So simple and effective. Challenge Dutton to do the same. Either completely wedge him on it, or look like the stronger leader who is making changes and make Dutton follow along.

3) Ban his party from accepting free air travel anywhere. Whack Dutton right where it hurts - Rinehart and her private jet. Make Dutton do the same, or look like a billionaire’s lapdog.

It’s all very simple, really.

But Albanese looks like he either won’t or can’t do this stuff. Or he’s just more interested in the personal perks and rorts than he is in actually leading the country.

Reading the trend on immigration in the US it appears the legal migrants voted Republican because they were sick of the illegal ones getting preferential treatment.

Border Force think finding people who overstay their visa is good telly?
Dutton tried to make the High Court's release of asylum seekers a safety issue, but overegged it when it was revealed he personally let an asylum seeker convicted of r@pe reapply for a visa rather than removing him from the country.
And it won't cost him any votes.

I wouldn’t be relying on that. The media will do a lot of the work for him. And it’s not like he has to prosecute the case hard - a lot of it is sitting back and watching Albanese trip himself up.
That's the nuts and bolts of the matter, it's like the flawless and lawless expectations of Harris and Trump, Albanese and Dutton get judged by two very different standards.

Americans are ignorant, though.

Biden et al introduce tough border bill and Trump scuttled it for his personal gain.

They went for the TV personality.

How much better are we? We killed meaningful tax reform that people are crying out for and elected Scott Morrison because something, something Bill Shorten.

Find myself unable to disagree off the top of my head.

It does show you need a decent salesman and not rely on policy alone.
