You implied they were only doing one thing, ignoring the col crisis.. I gave a coalition example where they deliberately did that

I’m implying they are focusing on something that is so stupid and so ridiculous that will also cost them votes. They are so out of touch it’s not funny.

What are they doing about the cost of living crisis?
Are you saying they are doing both?

They need to be doing a better job of promoting what they are doing.

But there’s always some crisis or other. If govts just did crises, nothing else, because of optics, we really will be in the shit

Government trust is at an all time low. Telling us what is and what isn’t misinformation online seems an own goal to me. And the social media one, well it’s laughable. Mix these in together at the same time, I can see it rubbing a lot of people the wrong way. But that’s just my opinion.

"But the coalition" has run its race. The ALP need to go to the next election only talking about CoL, it's all 90% of voters give two figs about (I'm voting solely on anti-genocide, but I'm sure I'm an outlier).

They shouldn't be doing this stupid Social Media thing because a) The coalition agrees with them and b) it's going to be an implementation nightmare.

And what will the LNP and media do? They'll tell everyone about how bad CoL is while the ALP Govt is flailing about with internet bans we'll all hate and wasted a year and hundreds of millions on the Voice. Any time the ALP wants to talk about CoL, they'll get asked why we should believe they can implement anything when they can't even stop 15 year olds using the internet.

Meanwhile, the LNP will only talk about Cost of Living and that they'll do something about it. It doesn't matter that their nuclear plan is stupid. Most people won't hear that, they'll just hear about the ALP flailing and LNP promising to fix CoL.

It's exactly what Trump did, with a compliant media and it's exactly what Dutton will do.

How Albanese is stupid enough to front the media and talk about anything other than CoL is beyond me. They're stupider than I thought, which wasn't a lot.

Albanese, Marles, Wong, Plibersek, Bowen, they're all far better at ALP factional fighting than actually governing. Those 5 have been in Parliament for probably 100 years between them and achieved 6/7ths of sod-all and learnt nothing in all that time.

Losing to Morrison and then to Dutton, they should all resign in shame.

Not just promoting what little they are doing, but focusing on saying they're planning on doing more. Announce tiny, insignificant CoL measures every single week. Albanese shouldn't front the media unless he's talking about CoL. If there's some other crisis, send out the minister.

Sorry, I didn't relieve any cost of living crisis because I've been dealing for 3 months with a Social media crisis created by ourselves is not going to win an election.

We brought inflation down (after it ran rampant) while everyone is still suffering is losing elections all over the globe.

Spot on Sainter.

Unfortunately, public stupidity is at an all-time high. The Bill should certainly be looked at but just as you can't yell fire in a crowded room that's not on fire, neither should people be able to peddle disprovable information because the amount of idiots willing to lap it up is ever growing.

Who can't be bothered to parent properly.
Why do we ban alcohol for under 18s, just parent better, why stop them vaping, parents should be on to that, why ban them from gambling their pocket money, just be a good parent? Just as kids can sneak off from even the best parent and engage in risky activity because that's what kids do, even the best parent can't stop them from getting caught up in vile shit on social media. It's currently an unregulated cesspool.

Now, I'm not in support of the legislation because I think it's unwieldy and unlikely to work, but your take is simplistic and naive.

And yet we have adds playing for alcohol and gambling in sporting events where kids often frequent and the Govt hasn't a problem with that.

Also its nor just Social Media that they are after but the dangerous "disinfo/misinfo" bill too. They want to control what you watch/read/listen/research etc....

If both go to pass, you can kiss your freedom and free speech, that the Diggers fought for, goodbye.

Yes stupidity is also high.
Where do you draw the line? Who decides what is and isn’t misinformation? They just have zero leg to stand on anymore and it’s because trust for them has heavily diminished.

The social media one is ok in theory. And that’s all it is. They’ve come up with the idea and then palmed the rest of the responsibility on. It’s borderline embarrassing.
Now there’s talk of everyone needing to provide more ID for all social media and gaming platforms 😂

An own goal that’s just going to piss more people off. I think Albo is really struggling.

You underestimate how savoir faire/"She'll be right" attitude is rife, embedded and in built it is in Aus. Nobody gets pissed in Australia. Happy to be subjugated and be compliant though.

It might not be popular on here, but the social media ban is popular among parents and there's a shit-ton of them.
Purely politically it's a net neutral at best considering Dutton is behind it, has already promised to implement it within 100 days of being elected, and can easily criticize Albanese for not going harder or making it effective enough to win back any "think of the children" voters Albanese thinks he might have wooed.

Given the way media is setup in this country I think any bipartisanship is a default win to the LNP.

So are you struggling? Or are you offended on behalf of?

Alcohol is a controlled substance, the fine for selling alcohol to minors is in the thousands. And lots of 16 and 17yo's drink under their adults' supervision.

The internet is available on devices that 15yo's should have access to (for school, learning and friendly socialising). More parents I know think it's a bad idea than a good one.

The parents who can't be bothered or don't know how to keep their kids off SM are the ones who will be extra upset when this ban makes things harder for them (their own ID etc) and their kids will have already sussed out the loopholes which the SM companies will have no intention of closing.

Dutton won't win, he is going to lose more seats to teals

On SM-A136B using BigFooty.com mobile app
Victoria is going to see a big swing in the types of seats the LNP have shifted to. CoL is about to be matched by unemployment heading towards 5%. Jan and Feb is going to be nasty in Victoria and any RBA cut is going to be too late to save it.

The LNP don't have a lot of inner-city seats left to lose to Teals.

There's no way the ALP gains seats after this term.

In theory I reckon a ban on under 16s accessing social media is a very popular policy with the broader electorate. However, it will almost certainly involve 16+ Australians either having to verify their age using their drivers license, or passport, to access their own accounts (or god forbid, MyGovID) which will make it lose its appeal almost instantly.

Do I have to tap the sign again? The social media ban is bipartisan. It's not going to be an election issue between the major parties because not only do the Liberals support it, the Liberals proposed it before Labor. It's more likely to be a wedge issue for minor parties on the right to hive off votes from the aforementioned Antic/Rennick types.
