Do I have to tap the sign again? The social media ban is bipartisan. It's not going to be an election issue between the major parties because not only do the Liberals support it, the Liberals proposed it before Labor. It's more likely to be a wedge issue for minor parties on the right to hive off votes from the aforementioned Antic/Rennick types.
Greens and One Nation both opposing so I expect to see the majors both lose primary votes.

You don't think the LNP will point out how the ALP have stuffed the implementation when it turns out that everyone hates it?

That's the beauty of being in opposition. You can support a policy which is unimplementable and when it goes **** up, you can point out that the Government is a shambles. Probably even talk tough like "We'd actually make Meta and TikTok do it properly" without saying how.

In 6 months, everyone is going to hate this policy. But the LNP will have a much easier time just saying "well, the ALP stuffed it up, we're going to focus on Cost of Living" and everyone will be supportive.

It's November and an election is due in the next seven months. I don't think there will be an implementation before the election, and that will be reasonable.

And as I have said many times, it is not an Opposition's job to fix the Government's mistakes for them. To see how things would be fixed, you have to vote for the Opposition. There are very few advantages of being in Opposition, but you have identified one of them.

The Libs aren't offering to fix anything, they have no policy. All we have is Dutton doing his best Thatcher impression saying no to everything.

To be fair, he's saying yes to the ALP's only current piece of legislation. And the ALP could easily deal with minor parties if their intention was to make things better rather than just stay in power.

It's not like the ALP have a lot of policies to oppose at the moment. What's being held up? The housing subsidy to overseas developers?

And yet we have adds playing for alcohol and gambling in sporting events where kids often frequent and the Govt hasn't a problem with that.

Also its nor just Social Media that they are after but the dangerous "disinfo/misinfo" bill too. They want to control what you watch/read/listen/research etc....

If both go to pass, you can kiss your freedom and free speech, that the Diggers fought for, goodbye.
This is the most appalling part of all of this... The government has had numerous opportunities to do something meaningful in this space and simply chooses to bury its head in the sand and deny there is an issue. But they're hellbent on making every single person verify their identity to use social media.

When people arc up about it, Dutton will say this is not the version they really wanted and Albo is to blame. Enough people will not care or understand that this is a lie.

No doubt he will, as he is entitled to do. It's all part of the political game.

The ALP are making their own bed here, they could have left this issue well alone and let the LNP do something about it if they go into power.

You reap what you sow

How newscorp look snitching on rudd

" a....an..and and and he said THIS too !!! ( chokes back sob )

I'm no fan of the Murdoch rags, but Rudd is a slimeball who is scrambling to pretend he doesn't hate Trump in order to protect his job... He should just cop his medicine.
Can't argue that, idiot made it worse by deleting them.

Like, McCheese could hear a fart in his general direction from the other side of the country, i'm sure he's seen the tweets but newscorp just make themselves look even bigger weasels then they usually do.

Of course they milked it for all it's worth, sadly we can't expect any different. But he really is a dumb campaigner for giving them the ammunition.

I just assumed he would be resigning. Pretending he didn't do it would be classic Albanese though. Thinking that if they just do nothing, nobody will notice them.

You know that Aus Politics is in shambles when Greens and One Nations are in agreement on something.

What an idiot comment from Albo on the Rudd / Trump matter. We don’t need Trump further infecting our election next year. Get rid of Rudd quietly and don’t say anything ffs.
Perhaps surprising but the Coalition are in agreement that the US doesn't dictate our ambassadorial appointments. Of course you need someone that will work with the new administration but how do you think Trump would react if we told him to get rid of his ambassador because we don't like him.

That said, anyone know what Julia's doing? The irony would be delicious.

Anything to avoid having Dutton as our PM and I’m happy.

Yet we had the ALP oppose everything, complain about everything in opposition and in government they’ve done nothing it fix any of it!

It appears Albo only has the I’m not Dutton strategy as he’s done nothing to trumpet as his government’s achievements. Then again, he only got elected on the I’m not ScoMo platform, didn’t actually promise anything except a failed referendum.

Albanese with a big drift,I'd say he's gone come May next year.
Was just looking at that

I suspect punters can see a worldwide formline of incumbents getting torched by the electorate for inflation/cost of living

It's almost as if he got spooked by the Voice result and now is too scared to do anything.
