Game Day Around The Grounds Rnds 1 - 5

I haven’t been to a game since July 2019
Me either , won't take my kids coz there are way too many fwits out in the public plus the unreasonable cost of feeding 3 kids for the day is now ridiculous.
They are happy to grab local fish and chips and watch it on the box without fear of dheads yelling abuse
Me , I loved the tribal feel of footy back in the 80/90's and attended every week. Kids are built differently these days too many other better options for them

Hopefully the AFL learn from their mistakes and rectify this and also fix up the Double Header mess too.

The media have blown up this BS.

The concourse areas were jam-packed during the first game. I have mobility issues and the driving rain made it almost impossible for me to move around the stadium even without my walker (concierge locked it away so I wouldn't lose it) given the flood of people watching on the monitors and standing in standing only area positions watching the game under cover.

Lots of local supporters did only come for the second game but given the weather I'm hardly surprised.

The rain has woken me up this morning. If it persists I'm concerned that locals who bought 4day passes won't show up today given they got their monies worth on Thursday and last night.

that has nothing to do with the game I used to love attending - no pont arguing - it's where things are going and you can't stop it - no consultation with the fans just do what marketers say, pretty grim but I think Ive been to my last game - oh well.........

Sad but true Thy.

I miss the days where the sport itself was the focus and entertainment.

Nobody needed a DJ when Whitnall kicked the magical goal in the '99 prelim nor when Diesel was tackled by two blokes and managed to pinpoint a pass 30 to 40m off balance.

Even adding music to those highlights and so many more feels wrong but today is the norm. The game is worse for it

All this Ross Lyon circle jerking has made me hope that Collingwood belt them by 80 points. FFS!

Agreed. But I'd like to see their belting wait a week

As an aside, with your user name now being in light blue / teal are you hoping for a return to this:

The media circle jerk on that Rabble's 150th.

150 years of what - 1 flag & 27 spoons! :laughv1: :laughv1: :laughv1:

Feeling the same and it makes me sick in the stomach hoping the Carringbush smash them

I'll see myself out.

What people have to remember is it's 1/23 of our fixture which was rated the 12th easiest. Would people be happier if we played a neutral team this week snd stayed over to play the crows next weekend.

We should have been better prepared than our feeble effort in the first quarter.

Pure and simple.

Agree.

Pitiful effort however not sure many teams would’ve beaten the cows that night.

The way we lost was really disappointing.

Ginnivan is back today.

Reason enough to hope the Pies lose, even to the Saints.

Yep, they screwed up with these Double Headers and making a big deal of saying it all sell outs and making it seem like all grounds will be full. They have to cut this nonsense. Need to fix the ticketing and logistic issues so this is not the case. Day matches should have been at Norwood and Glenelg and night matches at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. None of this double header bullshit at one ground where you really selling four teams into one event ticket and the crowd is diluted for both matches.

Agree with the recent posts about music post goals, not a fan at all.
I think AFL is still finding it's way to improve through technology. If you watch a current music concert, the lighting and effects they produce for these are beyond amazing. I think AFL will be even better in a few years to attend, they just need to figure out what works for the sport.

Last year I went to my first Melb City soccer match, the crowd chants and noise was pretty impressive - far ahead of an AFL crowd. Guys with drums and trumpets, might sound crap reading this, but I encourage you to attend a game. It's really cool, understand a little more now on the hype about attending big soccer club matches, would only be better

Just want to bring up the quirks of the draw as I feel it's had a big impact on the results we are seeing...especially because the gap between teams doesnt seem to be as big this year.

Gather round has really exaggerated this. Some examples.

Essendon v Melbourne - Melb were noticeably flat. It's only rd 5 and this was their 3rd interstate trip already...and this was back to back as they played in WA just last week. Conversely, this was Essendons first interstate trip this year and happened to be a neutral opponent.

Us v Crows - we came out very flat in the first quarter...2nd interstate trip in a few weeks and consecutive 6 day breaks. Some injury issues and players looking sore. For Adelaide it was their 4th consecutive game at Adelaide oval with a fit and healthy list. They did have a 5 day break but 7 the week before and no travel for a month. The 1 away game they've had they lost to a poor GWS without Whitfield and Kelly who were injured in game. Add gather round home support and bit of a perfect storm.

Saints - they've done well given their injuries. Their draw advantage has been 3 games at Marvel already and 1 at MCG...this week first interstate and its a neutral game as well. They also have only had 1 x 6 day break which was after Rd 1. I'll be interested to see how they go when they have to start travelling more and on short breaks.
