Not if Matthew Wade is the alternative he shouldn't! Haddin at his worst is still better than Wade behind the stumps!
Good to see you're still as stubborn with this bias as you were about Lyon....

Got news for you there isn't as much difference between the two as you make out.

Wade's footwork is horrendous. If you are saying Hartley or Whiteman I'd be happy with that. Nevill for a short time as well. Wade is a perfect ODI keeper and T20 keeper where his keeping can be hidden.

Not this Hartley shit again. He's over and barely averages 30.

Whereas Wade/Nevill are around 40 and Whiteman is mid 30's?. Whiteman hasn't started the season well so it'd be down to Wade or Nevill....

But we all know it will be Haddin given he'll be captain...

If Wade is a chance, I'd be sticking with Haddin. At least we know Haddin will be a trump card in England, even if he is diabolical right now with the bat. First and foremost a keeper is exactly that, he is there to NOT drop catches. If he can average 40 with the bat that is a bonus, but it isn't critical. Whiteman is the best young keeper period. Clean behind the stumps, and a very solid batsman. Needs a season though. I'm happy to carry Haddin for a season till he is ready.

Look I'm not averse to sticking with Haddin, just pointing out that Wade's failings as a keeper are never forgotten on here, and rightfully used as an excuse to not recall him.

Yet many forget or ignore that Haddin has been susceptible to the same problem.

Some will say he hasn't dropped any lately but there's also no indication that it's any different for Wade in recent Shield games.

You get what I'm saying?

Has he played in England? A year of county cricket might be useful if he is anointed as the one for the future.

Sobers was a freak of nature, no doubt. He ended with an average a tick under 58 (excluding the Rest of the World Tests in 1970 and 1971-72) but his bowling average was 34.

Kallis ended up averaging 55 and a half and just under 33 with the ball.

Imran Khan averaged 37.69 with the bat, and 22.81 with the ball.

Kapil Dev averaged 31.05 with the bat and 29.64 with the ball.

Those are the sort of guys who are the benchmark, along with Miller.
I would consider a true test allrounder anybody who averages more with the bat than with the ball with their batting being above at least 30 and bowling below 40. You can't be considered a specialist bowler or batsmen if you score less than 30 or not average under 40. Averaging above 40 or below 30 is exceptional and puts you in the top echelons.

Imran Khan averaged 37.69 with the bat over his entire test career.

There are others at least worth a mention.

One would be AW Greig.

From the early days of Test cricket you have people such as Wilfred Rhodes and George Giffen.

And then of course you'd have to think Procter would have been one of the great test all-rounders had he not played just a miserable 7 test matches.
Imran Khan after his injury was the best all-rounder I have ever seen for his era.
Probably the best I have seen!

That footage of Siddle tonight on the Ch7 news (not sure if it has been shown elsewhere - it's the only news I've seen all day) has surely got to be the final straw for him. If ever there was any doubt about that, anyway. Disgraceful.

What was it he did?

I wasn't watching at the time yesterday, but there was a replay of a high shot played to deep mid wicket by either Kohli or Vijay. With very high potential for a catch. Then we see Siddle failing to get to the ball to take the catch; it falls just a bit short of him. But, as Ch7 played the footage, they also superimposed what was picked up in the stump mic which was the other players yelling (swearing at him I think, actually) in frustration that he didn't get to the catch because he'd been too busy and occupied signing autographs. It was at a crucial stage of the afternoon when Aus desperately needed a wicket - from what I saw at the bottom of the screen, the score was 2/172 or something similar. The two batsmen seemed to be in either the sixties or seventies.

His lack of apparent interest or passion these days is embarrassing, and it seems even his teammates aren't impressed any more either. It's time (actually, long past time) he was asked to go.

I haven't seen it, but I can't believe that he was signing autographs while the ball was in play. Sids has a brain.

Interesting. I've always thought signing autographs in the middle of an over is a risky thing for a fielder to do, for precisely this reason. I'm sure it will be addressed but I don't think you could begrudge Siddle too much for being a good bloke and acting a little dopey. His form with the ball on the other hand...
