I hate to say it and I hope I am wrong but I just can’t see how Australia can ever beat India in a series, at least in the next decade or 2. And as India are the current holders of the trophy we have to win a series, not just draw one. We can’t win a series in India ( yes I know NZ just beat them but they play spin better than Australia and I think that series was just one of those aberrations that occur once in a blue moon and India didn’t respect them until it was too late ). We have lost the last 2 series at home and this one will be 3 in a row as our batting is just too unreliable and after losing this test we would have to win 3 of the last 4 tests with draws and weather to factor in. India’s huge population and national obsession with cricket and no other popular sports to drain the talent pool ensure they will always have top quality players coming through to replace retiring players. Australia’s current side was a very good side with quite a few all time greats but still could never get the job done. Now they are all getting older and staring cricket mortality in the face and the majority will be gone over the next few years. There is just not enough quality coming through to envision a future where Australia wins enough tests to win back the trophy.
