Adam yze. If not successful for the tiger role, would be fit into our coaching structure under Simmo? Do we have a "senior assistant" ?

I can’t imagine we would be the top destination for senior assistants. Likely bottom 4 again and potentially very unstable environment with Simmo probably sacked before the end of his contract.

Sounds like just the environment for a senior assistant to pick up a head coach role.

West Coast great Don Pyke opens up for the first time on returning to Eagles as their next chief executive

West Coast great Don Pyke has spoken for the first time after reports he is interested in the club’s top job, just days after the it formally announced long-time chief executive Trevor Nisbett would leave at the end of next year.
The two-time Eagles premiership player and former Adelaide coach confirmed a report by The West Australian on Saturday that he had been informally approached about his interest in becoming the next Eagles chief executive.

He flew into Perth on Saturday morning after finishing his post-season responsibilities with Sydney, where he is an assistant coach, after they were bundled out of the premiership race by Carlton last weekend.

But Pyke is not in town for any meetings with the Eagles and is instead coming to Perth for a holiday, just days after the Eagles announced the formal process to replace Nisbett has begun.
“I’ve spoken to the club. The announcement on Wednesday is that Trevor is not going ahead after next year and I was asked if I was interested,” Pyke told The West Australian.

“I have some interest depending on what the role and the process entails and in my eyes what they’re looking for because it’s got to match all parties.”
He is only set to be in town for a little while, with the Swans’ fairest and best count in a fortnight.

(Everything after this is just a re-hash about the Nissie presser).

So on a holiday and is vaguely interested. Smart enough not to say much. Column filling by the rag.
He is my favored candidate but its a big world out there, I hope we are looking widely.

Just casually pops into the club to buy his kids some merch

Lol at Pyke being in town briefly for a holiday but not here to meet Eagles officials

It sort of explains why the presser was called this week, to announce that Trev and the Board had decided to embark on an exit strategy and confirm it publicly.

Just imagine the Media frenzy, led by none other than splinter dick 🪵 :chicken:, once they knew that Pyke was in town ......... the joining of the dots would have been at warp speed.

Don't be fooled by the casual demeanour and laid back non comital language, from both WCE & DP, there is plenty of genuine interest from both Parties to make this a reality.

Timing is a fine clue.

Sydney knocked out of the finals race.
Previous conversations between PF & DP to garner interest. ( As reported by none other than Mr Sliding Doors himself a month ago )
DP quickly arranges a holiday too Perth.

Nudge nudge, wink wink ......... what an uncanny coincidence.

DP would the be the dream, awesome combo of experience to run a football club

1. Past successful player
2. Successful in business post football career
3. Establish and highly regarded assistant coach
4. Head coach, took a team to the GF in 2nd season and wasn't sack due to performance. But some bullshit camp, that noone know much about, but Tex and Betts complaining about it don't spark my interest.
5. Hard arse

I'm sure they're might be better CEO out there, but nine with the understanding of a football club and what needs to be successful

We have a great board and revenue collecting isn't a hard job for WCE, the ground work has been laid.

DP come on down

And exposure to two other clubs - one of which, Sydney, seems to be very well run at all levels. The other also well run, aside from camp fiasco, so some IP/IQ also comes too.

The whole camp fiasco and what followed I actually see as a positive. You learn a lot more from failure than success as long as you taste both.

What makes him qualified? Seems his career has gone no where since the camp and this would be a big step up

I’d like the club to cast a wide net to find the best person for the job

That said it’s hard to think of someone who would be a better fit than Pyke

He also has the advantage of being available relatively soon given its offseason and as much as Sydney wouldn’t like losing him now would be less disruptive

I’m not overly enamoured with Pyke given the damage he did to the Crows. However, he was not alone in that and appeared to have realised/made a genuine attempt to repair the situation before making the (right) call to walk.

I would expect he would have learnt a huge deal from his time as a head coach, in addition to his previous lifes as a player, assistant coach and in business so from that perspective, I think he deserves an opportunity, certainly to apply along with any other candidates.

Hope the club is rigorous in their approach and takes as much time as required, getting the right person is critical 👍

Businss success, WC is a significant and intricate business unlike most clubs, strong I and EQ, exposure to a few decent clubs (Sydney and Adelaide are well managed but very different structures and culture) and a strong football brain. He has enough downs to learn from over the journey as well. The easy road isnt a great teacher. The camp is only one. Well rounded not just a retired played with a good media persona or a long term club director. I also think he has a hard edge as is required at times.
