Ugly that every time I gain a bit of faith in this team they shatter it the next week.

The emotional rollercoaster sucks. Rather be terrible every week than this clinging on to hope of becoming something.

At least West coast fans can comfortably watch games with a whatever happens happens type attitude.

Most disappointed I've been with a performance all year, the Dogs match just a shocker we no showed, this one we showed up but just got out worked, out coached, players making seriously dumb decisions & not playing the conditions anywhere near as our opponents. Make no mistake GC are playing some good footy so losing was always possible, but it's the manner in which this one happened that was pretty poor across the board. Just a few players that can really hold their heads high tonight.

The reality is as good as the improvement we've made this year we're a very good side at home, but a pretty poor team away still.

Had a lot to play for (box seat for a run at finals) so to be smashed around the contest so bad was just deflating.

Winning on the road consistently (as a non VIC side) is the hardest thing and when you do that, you are a contender.

Still a young side with a lot of growth and development needed. Need a refresh for next week, hit the bye and then prepare for the second half of the season. Keep winning at home and if you can snag a couple away and you are in with a good chance.

Total clusterfk

Also - fair to say not selecting Worrell was a terrible move?

We obviously were consistently giving up too much height and a lack of intercept in defence tonight
No, the selectors always get it right and are immune from criticism.

Why wasn't Murray on Lukosius?

Do we really think Casboult is a greater threat?
Nicks is an idiot sometimes. Some of his decision making like Murray in the ruck?
Keays and Sloane in the middle when we were getting slaughtered..
Keeping Butts on King.

Where's that damn "we're handing back the license" thread.

Nowhere near being a genuine top 4 team.

Keays – c’mon enough is enough. Seriously talentless footballer. The momentum killer.

Midfield is C grade. No young A graders on the list. Pointless blowing big dollars on half back flankers.

If having to play in Darwin isn't bad enough we have to endure Kelly #$@#$ Underwood.

Umpiring - woeful.

Soligo – young but very inconsistent. Worrying.

Apart from Worrell, who should come straight back in, the depth cupboard is bare.
Blaming keays is ridiculous.

Dumb play all round by most Adelaide players. Even the ones who ostensibly played well.

Soligo at his best has been great this year. But about 1 in 4 games he just hasn't shown up for, which is a problem because his worst is abysmal. Multiple goals were conceded from his errors of judgement.

Keays should have had 6 goals if he didn't make basic errors like "Not making the distance from 30-40m" or "missing the goal from inside 15m". Instead he left with 2.1 (+ the rushed behind from the Rowell smother.)

It is unfair to compare the bad players to the coaching though, which was even worse. Ironically, the most bizarre of them all, Murray into the ruck, is the one that hurt on the scoreboard the least.

That 50m penalty was an absolute disgrace. Had a big impact on the momentum in the game.
Indeed. I don't know why you'd deliberately and obviously run over the mark like that right in front of the umpire. One of many idiotic decisions by Adelaide players and coaching staff that hurt them on the scoreboard.

I dunno, usually I’m one to heap it onto poor performers. And there were some below par efforts tonight.

but seriously…

THAT UMPIRING EFFORT WAS ABOUT AS PUTRID AS WE’VE HAD AGAINST US SINCE THAT BULLDOGS GAME WHERE PANNELL REAMED US

THE UMPIRING DIDNT COST US NINE CONSECUTIVE GOALS AGAINST A SHIT TEAM

Going to be a lot of negatives aimed at the fellas after that, and I get it. But it's a young squad finding their feet in conditions they've not really played in before against opponents who not only have, but did last week and had the entire week up there preparing/acclimatising. Those conditions are ****ed - both in terms of how it affects the person and how it affects the ball. Huge advantage. Losing Doedee was structurally really damaging given how Gold Coast set up their forward line. I get how that happened, I'm not too upset about it, and I've still got supreme faith in these fellas.

Butts is a bit of a concern and has been for awhile, Hinge is very vanilla and doesn't really offer anything special in any regard - he feels very replaceable. ROB was comprehensively beaten at the tap and ineffectual around the ground. Not Sloane's best, either.

Gets a lot of stick around here and I totally get why, but I reckon Keays was phenomenal tonight. I don't care about the 36% disposal efficiency. It's a shit metric anyway. Three of those were near-goals stopped on the goalline, two of which get recorded as clangers. Cracked in all night, tackled hard, won the ball, kept his man honest and wore him like a glove. And honestly, got worn like a glove by Rowell when we were in possession too. But his gut running, in those conditions, was just unbelivable. Nobody else on the ground worked nearly as hard. Every single time we forced a turnover he embarked on a 100 metre sprint and got 15 metres goal side of his man into damaging offensive space. Every time. All night - didn't relent until the end. We just weren't good enough to take advantage of it most of the time. Impressive.

I get the focus on his disposal - but especially in conditions like that, it's not nearly as relevant (and effective disposal is more challenging). Just get it forward, and run hard to get the balls others hoof forward. Nobody was better at that tonight.

Edit: forgot to criticise Sholl. He deserves the criticism. Time to move on. Tex needs to do more when he's not having shots too - same criticism Fog got for most of his early career. Think we could do with a couple of battlers like Sholl and Hinge rotating out for blokes like Worrell and Nankervis.

Also, playing away from home is hard. Playing away from home at these novelty grounds against perpetual pseudo-home teams is harder. Darwin, Launceston, Ballarat in quick succession. Not good. Fixture inequity for sure in not being a high-drawing Melbiurne side.

Can't win away, can't play in the heat. Terrible game to watch.

Trying to find some positives in that game:
  • Fogarty kicked 3 goals
  • Pedlar had that amazing play where he smothered Rowell's kick and followed it up with a fantastic goal
  • Milera had some nice side steps and couldn't be tackled
  • Rachele had that ankle breaker side step on Will Powell
That's about it.

The rest was terrible.
Keays got a heap of it, but his disposal is still terrible and I hate watching him go for goal. When he had that tight shot on the angle and Rachele was lurking, we all knew why - he's barely any good on his preferred left and cannot kick on his right. Not sure he really did much to negate whomever he was tagging. Rowell was just too powerful for him.

Laird went missing in the third quarter when GC overtook the game.

We couldn't stop Rowell and Anderson.
We allowed 8 goals between King and Lukosius.
