B: Firitto - Tarrant - Wright
HB: Atley - Thompson - McDonald
C: Macmillan - Cunnington - Wells
HF: Higgins - Brown - Ziebell
F: Waite - Petrie - Thomas
R: Goldstein - Swallow - Jacobs
I: Harvey - Dal Santo - Anderson - Gibson

E: Garner, Mullett, Dumont

Good side, I'd just have Gibson on the ground to minimise the rotation.

Hansen, Jacobs, Thomas miss due to being underdone/out of form.

Firrito Taz Wright
Atley Thompson Dal Santo
Macmillan Zeibull Wells
Higgins Waite Harvey
Brown Petrie Anderson
Goldstein Cunnington Swallow
Int; Mullett, Gibson, Garner, Clarke

I think thats a flexible team with excellent mid depth which will be important considerating limited rotations.

Hansen gets a game purely to help stop Adelaide's tall forward line.

Honestly dont know which small forwards Id go with for round 1. Thomas, Turner, Garner and Nahas have all been underwhelming.

Thomas has the runs on the board, I'd go with Garner too as I think he has the most upside. Give him a month to prove himself and then look to Turner or Nahas if he can't get the job done.

Bit harsh on Turner, he went off early in the NAB 1 at Wangaratta, and hasn't been seen since

I think Anderson and Mullett have to play, would be good to see them play as outside mids across the wings and half forward. Both have speed and both have excellent goal sense. If those 2 can get a bit of the footy on the outside while the likes of wells and higgins continue to play good footy we suddenly have 4 really damaging outside types who can turn a game.

Anderson and Mullett provide a point of difference.

Offensively, perhaps. Defensively I'm not sure.

While Jed is a great (even brutal) tackler in a one-on-one situation, one of the few downsides we've heard about him is 'keeping the structures'. The relevance of said structures, I'm assuming relates to defence. With Fishy, I have vivid memories of some horrid one-on-one efforts defensively. How is he with his two-way running?

Jed is good defensively. Watched him a few times last year in the VFL and he works hard when the ball isn't in his hands, which can't be said for a lot of our midfielders who look like they are walking in mud.

Fish runs hard both ways and can lay a tackle, but his one v ones aren't particularly good. However he has had a full pre-season and his body looks a significantly stronger this year.

Consulted the cosmic wavelength earlier and have come away thinking that Bradley is quite keen to have him in for Round 1. I reckon he'll play.

Just based on intraclub and the fact he is unfit.

Thomas has the runs on the board, I'd go with Garner too as I think he has the most upside. Give him a month to prove himself and then look to Turner or Nahas if he can't get the job done.
Thomas started the last 3 finals as sub if Im not mistaken. Sure he kicks goals but the umps hate him and his defensive pressure isnt what it was. Needs to up his game.
Nahas gives his all but was average in the intra club and the NAB Challenge. Garner hasnt set the world on fire either.
My point is all arent knocking the door down for that small forward spot.

I'm worried about our back line this year, so i think it's time to move Drew back for the whole year.

That backline is way too top heavy. Hansen out for Mullett. NDS will play unless injured. Petrie aint going back even though i am not totally opposed to the idea

This won't get picked but it's what I'd choose.

FB Firrito Tarrant Thompson
HB Atley Wright McMillian
C Gibson Swallow Wells
HF Harvey Petrie Higgins
FF Thomas Waite Anderson
Foll Goldstein Cunnington Ziebell
Inter Dal Santo Brown Garner Mullet

Em Jacobs Daw Hansen

That's it.

Brad already has the team he wants to play locked in. The entire nab exercise is a waste of time for us...
Unless, of course, you realise that testing the readiness of fringe players isn't necessarily the only or even primary reason for playing the games. Put aside the fact that it's a contractual obligation (as Richmond found out) things like 'match fitness', tweaking of game plan (A.7) etc. may be higher on the agenda.

The one thing we should be trying is getting into a habit of winning.

My iss-hue is unlike a lot of teams we didn't find a player or two, which to me, should be the goal of such games if indeed you aren't planning on winning and hitting round 1 with momentum.

R: Goldstein Ziebell Cunnington

Em: Thomas Daw McDonald
In reserve: Clarke Mullett Tippett

Would love to fit Ryan Clarke in, but I just can't see who goes out for him. I want to play LT as well, but he's not doing enough as yet. Has not been in form for a while, stretching back well into last year.

Garner needs to prove himself, but we need to get games into him, even if they are crucial games. He's not going to develop if he's in and out of the side.

Dumont has to play, he's too good to leave out. Is going better than anyone else in my Emergency or reserve list.

Nick Bowen's take, no mention of Gibson even as a backup:

B: Lachie Hansen, Scott Thompson, Shaun Atley
HB: Sam Wright, Robbie Tarrant, Jamie Macmillan
C: Daniel Wells, Jack Ziebell, Nick Dal Santo
HF: Shaun Higgins, Jarrad Waite, Brent Harvey
F: Lindsay Thomas, Drew Petrie, Ben Brown
FOLL: Todd Goldstein, Andrew Swallow, Ben Cunnington
INT: Michael Firrito, Taylor Garner, Ben Jacobs, Jed Anderson

We have made just one change to the best 22 AFL.com.au named in late November, with veteran Michael Firrito coming in for Luke McDonald. Although McDonald still shapes as a key player for the Roos over the next decade, Firrito looks a more reliable option in defence right now, especially in one-on-one contests. Aaron Mullett's encouraging start to 2016 suggests he will also press strongly for opportunities in the Roos' backline. We have retained Jed Anderson on the interchange bench, but the former Hawk will need to improve on his pre-season form to keep fellow small forwards Kayne Turner and Robin Nahas out of the team. Ben Brown remains as the Roos' third tall in attack but will be vulnerable to challenges from Aaron Black, Mason Wood and Majak Daw if he continues to regularly mis-time marking attempts. - Nick Bowen
