Danger isn't the best mid in the comp (its not 2016), maybe the best clearance mid. His disposal and decision making is pretty average.

As a forward he did well because teams put mid sized players instead of a bigger defender, now that they do he doesn't have as much impact

Danger needs to do what he does best and win clearances then handball to Duncan or Kelly.

Dont need more marking power up forward with Sav and Hawkins. Danger is also far too hungry to play as a 3rd tall and his goal kicking isnt good enough.

He's more dangerous up forward when we send him up there for a spell. Sides were onto it this year (him playing down there permanently) so he didn't have as much impact plus it meant we were one short in the midfield where he was desperately needed.

You should really go back and watch the games from this season when Danger was played forward to see just how bad we got smashed at centre clearances. He spent full quarters forward without even touching the ball because we couldn't win it in there and get it to him. He is wasted forward. To suggest the team struggles because Danger is playing midfield is crazy.

What games and what quarters? Because from what I remember this is complete fantasy. Like I showed before most of our worst performances were when Danger spent more time in midfield not less.

To say that Danger is the worst performing part of the team when we lose finals is ridiculous. Best MID in the comp.

Compared to his ability Dangerfield is our worst performing finals player over the last few years with only the Sydney win when he played forward being the exception. Just look at his record:

Hawthorn QF 2016 - treated the ball like a bar of soap and turned it over again and again.
Sydney PF 2016 - his mistakes in the first quarter led to multiple Sydney goals and us being completely out of the game.
Richmond QF 2017 - Non-existent in a midfield smashed. Again was fumbly and turned the ball over continually.
Sydney SF 2017 - Dominant performance playing mainly forward especially in the first half when we put the game to bed.
Adelaide PF 2017 - Solid performance doing his best work mainly forward (5 shots at goal).
Melbourne QF 2016 - Major part of a midfield that was completely smashed. Horrible night with 12 clangers (admittedly his game didn't improve when he was pushed forward during the second half but it didn't seem to hurt our midfield who were clearly more competitive during that time).

Dangers a bit overrated as a forward on here. He spent less time forward in 2017 than he did in 2018, yet kicked 21 more goals in 2017 than 2018, and also had 30 more scores. It might work sometimes but most of the time it won't. He's a contested bull of a midfielder, so play him as one. Small rests here and there.

That's a massive call. Some of our players have had dead set howlers come finals time. I don't think Danger's games fell into that category.

Compared to his ability he's been our worst finals performer comfortably. We're talking about arguably the best player in the league and we set up our entire structure to try and allow him to run free, win the ball and drive us forward.

I'm not sure what constitutes a howler if his final this year doesn't count as one. We lost the game because were smashed in midfield, we butchered the ball and gave away dumb free kicks. He had 12 clangers, only 3 clearances (there were 64 clearances recorded for the match) and only 4 score involvements. So he gave the ball away, didn't win the ball at the source and didn't help us hit the scoreboard.

Just to put that in perspective, Cam Guthrie who played half back for most of the game and whose main role is to defend and allow Dangerfield to chase the ball had more clearance than our number 1 mid. He also only had 2 clangers rather than 12. And Guthrie was the one who copped most of the criticism!

This is a load of shit really,
QF 2016 35 touches at 71% (arguably best on)
PF 2016 39 touches and a goal at 74% (best on by a mile).

Only really been bad in the Richmond and Melbourne games, the rest he was either serviceable or best on ground, hardly our worst performer lol...

We've had a few players who in critical finals games have been non-participants. You suggest he had a howler this year. Fair enough but I'd suggest it was a one-off. I'm saying there are others who have consistently failed in finals...

...has led to a bit of the angst on this board actually.

Yep. Agree.

Nothing to do with Danger. Just the fact we thrash our guns throughout the season. Judd was thrashed at Carlton. Got them into the finals. Did nothing in the finals.

Yep. Works as a surprise tactic.
Great to see the utter panic on his opponent's face when he realises what's about to happen.
But Cynical is correct in saying he struggled when a real defender was placed on him.

Let's try a little lateral selection principle

Only indigenous and irish or gaelic named players in the defensive half to get some flair coming out of there

B: O'Connor Taylor Narkle
HB: Tuohy Stewart Kelly

Make the midfield established and youngsters being taught by established

C: Constable Duncan Clarke
R: Stanley Dangerfield Parfitt

Make the forward half people willing to hurt the opposition and good marking forwards and goal sharks

HF: Cockatoo Hawkins Dahlhaus
F: Ablett Ratagolea Selwood

Choose the interchange from utilities who can fill various roles

Blicavs Menegola Rohan Fogarty Henderson S.Selwood Bews Fort Kolo Guthrie

And keep the kids in the twos for development
Miers Kennerley, Jarvis, Simpson, Parsons, Zuthrie, Tarca, Kreuger, Buzza, Cunico, Jones

Are people really questioning Menegola's place in the team?

5th most goals
5th most disposals
4th most marks
2nd most tackles

Amazing!

There would be others with that sort of record that have been removed from our list?

If we are to improve then others have to be good enough to push the likes of him out ..till then he is in the side.

I can't think of any. For a high half forward that's impressive

what are his stats in losses and finals?

downhill skier of the highest order

if you cant perform under intense pressure then you are a waste of time

unless all we want is to make finals and then get embarrassed

So we'll delist the entire team then shall we?

no one is as bad as Menegola when it comes to finals
2nd would be Kolo
and 3rd Blicavs

if you are primarily a big ball winning mid and your output goes down significantly then you are more of a problem for the rest of the team (since its your job to win it and give it to outside players)

against Melbourne he had 5 contested possessions and 2 tackles

this guy is 189cm and 89kg and cant win the footy on the inside

as far as outside play his DE was 60% and he mostly handballs

when he does get the ball he has no agility so he has to kick it around the corner or handball it to space

that no agility doesn't help defensively either, the agile Melbourne mids waltzed around him time and time again

also plays HF but why? he has no footy smarts, just another not a good enough mid so we'll dump him forward (he can outbody smaller opponents in developing teams but good teams dont play those guys in finals)

there should be no place for Menegola

could have traded him to a team that needs a big mid

Can't agree re Menegola l think he needs more central time not as much half fwd and he'd 30+ every week.
He needs playing in his best position, midfield. With his aerobic running and ability to accumulate, he could and should take a step to elite.

Garbage

That was actually this year, and the year before. How many does he get?

As Turbo said above re Menegola , it needs other mids/defenders to perform to a level that will allow GFC to move CGuthrie on. Until then he stays on the list (and if injuries continue to help) he gets games as well.

Hopefully, Cockatoo (said that before) Charlie, Narkle, Parsons and one of this years kids (especially Clark) have a big year. Then Guthrie can be moved aside.
