Would have liked to but no, 3rd round back to cats and it would have been close to even.

The trade is the absolute pits in isolation

Clearly its not supposed to be viewed in isolation. Tuohy and a 2nd rounder for Marchbank, Pickett, Smedts and possibly another player or pick. Tuohy has been good for us but lets not overrate him too highly he's not even our best half back in our own very average team.

A circular trade...

Geelong trades Smedts and their 2017 first for Zach and our 2017 second.
Carlton trades the cats 2017 first to GWS for Marchbank and Pickett and whoever else we can get.
GWS trades the cats 2017 first to Bitchmond for Lids
Bitchmond trades the cats 2017 first to Geelong for Josh Caddy.

Work out who wins that one.

Geelong: Smedts, Caddy > Touhy & 2nd Rounder
Carlton Touhy & 2nd rounder> Marchbank, Pickett, etc & Smedts
GWS : Marchbank, Pickett etc > Deledio
Tigers: Deledio > Caddy

I'd say everyone pretty much, although on face value GWS have given up a lot for a broken down 30 year old HFF.

Surely we make a play at one of Atkins/Barlow or another mid given we are going to miss out on Hrovat, and will have a massive hole left by Gibbs.

Are there any other mids up for grabs that SOS could pull a surprise with?

I seriously wouldn't mind getting NDS as a last resort. Similar classy outside player that would fill the void in the short term.

Assuming the Gibbs trade happens tomorrow, we potentially finish the trade period with Pick 13, a 2017 1st round pick, Marchbank, Pickett & Smedts. I can potentially see the 2017 1st round pick being used to garner a further pick for this season, or even a player out of left field.

We hit the draft with 2 x 1st round picks, on top of our 3 x 1st round picks last year. That's 5 x 1st round draft picks over 2 drafts. That's how you rebuild a list. The bonus being we have added Plowman & Sumner last year, Marchbank, Pickett & Smedts this year. That's a further 5 x 1st round draft picks. 10 x first round draft picks over 2 years = that is really how you rebuild a list.

He's not even our second best.

My point is that we gain Marchbank, Pickett and ? without dislodging pick 5, and so adds to the bigger picture.

Yeah, just not to the circular trade Dramoth proposed.

Hi guys,

At the end of the day we need to look at what we had before we entered the trade period and what we will walk away with. What happens in between or how it happens is irrelevant.
Once all trades are completed then we should determine if it's been a good trade period or a flop.

Yep, there must have been a reason we fought for another first rounder for so long. Will be an interesting few hours tomorrow morning.

I'm hoping we move the crows future first - assuming we get it, to Gold Coast

We are interested in one of their players or take one of their current picks

They might be better spreading their first rounders over a few years

I seriously wouldn't mind getting NDS as a last resort if he came cheap with regards to his contract. He wouldn't be getting any interest from elsewhere, so it wouldn't be hard to get him to play for peanuts.

Classy outside player similar in style to Gibbs, that would fill the void left by him the short term.

Excuse my ignorance, who is NDS?

And I really hope Everitt pops off as part of that too. I became very annoyed watching him in 2016.

At the end of the day we should of pushed harder for Hrovat to come to us. Hopefully can convince a Richards type.
