Still couldn't care less, he was having a consensual relationship. Again, if he can do the job as our CEO he can have as many extra curricular personal relationships as he likes.

The issue is that it was bad cooperate governance to choose an affair with a subordinate. He either didn’t know that it was a policy issue (bad governance) or didn’t care (even worse governance)

we dodged a bullett....
John Barker to be announced as Gold Coast coach....maybe a couple of our "out-of-contract" players may head north with him ?
The brother-in-laws......???
SOS to pull out a massive blindside in trade week........again, another mid......??

People need to relax.
The way some are carrying on it's like we missed out on a Dangerfield or Dusty.
Apart from being a mature player with a hardened body, what does he bring ? Finals experience ? No. A culture of success ? No. Leadership skills ? No. A good example for the kids to look up to ? No.
So why the need to pay the big bucks ? Let Port be the suckers. He ll for in perfectly with all the other overcebrating downhill skiers.
Would've been useful to have in the short term, but long term no big loss.

Fully agree, but the real value in getting him in would have been the flexibility of offloading Gibbs for draft picks to bring in Kennedy, Smith and maybe Saad. That's going to be a lot harder now and SOS is going to have to work his magic to get this done.

We can still off load Gibbs. I dont see why everyone is so worried about Gibbs going. We werent going to challenge for a flag next year. The whole idea has been to go to the draft and bring in kids. I hope Gibbs does go. We all want Blues to get to the top of the ladder as soon as possible. Patience is the key in all this. I have faith also our young kids will take big steps next year. Would rather see draft picks come in and Gibbs go even without Rocky

White and Buckley

Lever willing to go to the PSD if the Melbourne deal falls though.

We have the highest pick (#3) from Victorian teams. lol. WHo do we want form Melbourne to see that Lever makes it there? I'd say Gawn but they wouldn't do that.
He can nominate a salary.

You would have to wonder how Rockliff would have fitted in with Murphy (who gave the Lions a massive slap in the face by choosing not to nominate as a F/S selection)
So a player who has chosen to leave the Brisbane Lions would have an issue with a new teammate who himself chose not to play with the Brisbane Lions 12 years ago? Clutching at straws much :D

Wanted to trade Gibbs last year. And been thinking trade him in the lead up to this trade period.

If we had of got Rocky, it would have been the perfect time to trade him.

However now Im thinking he is too important to us next year so I hope he stays. If we bring in a FA or 2 next year we could look at trading him then... although he will be another year older and I dont think we wil get too much for him considering he woudl be a free agent the year after.

So I hope he stays, becomes a 1 club 300 game player. And wins a flag with us Shane Crawford styles.

I wake up to Rocky to Port! Sorry for the bum steer all. I can only assume that Port upped their offer at the last minute and we were not willing to match it.

McKay said we were short of an age gap of players,"22 to 26" i think he said? Not landing Rocky and losing Gibbs on top aswell and relying on the youth we have/get through the draft alone would be diabolical in my opinion.
The club needs to get wins on the board or the talented kids we do have arent going to want to hang around waiting for success, not to mention membership numbers could drop which the club cant afford to happen?
We need and want to improve as a club each year.
Go Blues!

The lever situation is quite enjoyable to watch. To see reports that their captain blasted him over the phone, that the coach was quite unpleasant at the news... oh and he is uncontracted. If you believe in karma, you’d almost say this is karma for what they did with us last year with Gibbs....

You reap what you sow.

I don't subscribe to karma and the situation is a somewhat different to the Gibbs one.
As with any club, they have to play tough and for what it's worth, the tougher they are, the 'luckier' we may get, should Gibbs leave for them.
It may be too much of a stretch but if Adelaide get what they want (Melbournes 1st. this year and next) it would be nice should SOS wrangle the 2018 1st for us, for Gibbs. O.K. that's unlikely, but you never know.

The best option is to try and get him to sign a new deal rather than risk losing him for nothing in two years. If we do trade him then we could look at Miles or trade in another mature mid, I guess that explains our interest in Scully. Or wait 12 months and accept a single pick.

High chance Smith nominates us and we bring him in along with Kennedy, we also have pick 3 who may have an immediate impact, plus the growth of SPS, Cunners etc and the return of Cripps and Curnow. Our midfield should be much stronger in 2018.

It makes me laugh when people say the young kids will leave because of no success. They will be our success. They will not go anywhere unless they are money hungry .If people only want to jump on board when we are winning then they arent true supporters anyway. People are getting carried away here. It will take time for this rebuild. 7 to 8 wins next season will be about right for us i think. We still have a mixture of youth and kids in the midfield even if Gibbs does go. Mind you not saying they are quality mids( Graham,Kerridge) but they will get us through another season if needed. Gibbs has currency now and all he would be doing is just playing a role until he retires. Get picks for him while he has currency. Better to get young players in now who can grow with the rest of the group.

Spot on a winning culture is the way, will attract players

A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

I reckon we all had one hand on it thinking he was coming our way. An earlier poster mentioned this - but existing relationships and cultural fit must've heavily influenced his decision.

"Getting back to family" only relevant in some situations and his extra salary buys a hell of a lot of plane tickets for rello's and babysitting services.
