Yep exactly what I’m thinking about the Setterfield deal but with SOS he’s always about the bigger picture. He would have a plan and know that he can work around those two seconds going over. Interested in the picks coming back

What a waste of my last two weeks. Most hated player in the AFL by Carlton fans now. He will be booed forever. What a bastard. I don’t get how this happened. They’ve obviousky upped their financial offer. Clearly he doesn’t want us enough. be prepared to be the motivating force to all Carlton people when we play the bombers. Reading the Essendon board the weren’t even discussing it as they KNEW he wasn’t going to Essendon. Whereas we’ve built up 400 pages of rubbish on the topic. I’m glad SOS has kept one and if pick 1-5 next year wasn’t enough so be it. We will beat Essendon every time from here on out we will call it;

If TRP is on the money then we've overpaid, unless the future pick swap is our future 2nd and 3rd for their future 1st and 2nd.

I was one who posted some news from someone closely linked to the club. I personally couldn't care less what anyone on here thinks of me for it (I'd be surprised it it's anything at all!) ... The reason I withhold such info generally is more so as not to screw with people's emotions. As I said in that post, I'm still figuring out the reliability, and there was a rumour that appeared in here recently that I'd heard weeks earlier from this person, so faith in reliability was growing. Anyway, the reason that I posted it this time, was bc I personally felt that it tipped the scales in our favour (all things/rumours considered). That being said, I think we probably were in the box seat for a while there. The Jack Martin news, Setterfield news, tied in with an apparent unwillingness to trade pick 1 gave Essendon a much stronger hand than they had 3-4 days ago. Glad we stuck to our guns re pick 1 in this scenario.

FWIW, and unrelated to ^^, I was always more excited about McGov and Setters (and have said as much in previous posts). I think mainly bc I was looking at value. Shiel is a gun, no doubt, but I think he's slightly overrated and I just got a bit over it all by the end.... Think we've picked up value, where we would have been paying overs for Shiel. Am very interested to see how he fares in a midfield that lacks the strength of GWS. Even our midfield, he would have had Cripps carrying the load. Suspect he'll be heavily targeted at Bombers. What is great about this, is that it adds to our rivalry with Essendon. I hate them more than any other Club and even though I'm not terribly concerned about missing Shiel, it'll be a fun little addition to the rivalry.

Still plenty to play out over the next week or so, but shit we've done well already. Adding McGov, Setters and potentially Walsh (or Rankine) to our team next year (as well as AR), is massive.

I think you are underestimating the bomber midfield to be honest. Shiel wont be the only mid that opposition worry about. And, sos and every other club knows that getting a player from another club costs overs but it is a fact of life now. If you dont play the game then you are cutting off a very important recruiting strategy. We were trying and prepared to pay overs for ds, just not our # 1 pick. Take that off the table and we left gws with no choice

Given McGovern was contracted I’m not surprised we’ve had to give up essentially three second rounders (assuming McAdam is worth a second rounder).
