I think its because they played hard that so many became injured. No way are we soft these days. Young and raw and easily hurt yes.

Understand the kids are raw and all that. But encouraging them to slow down and hesitate with their decision making has me fearing they will not be able to handle the pressure going forward. I mean they are like kids. Young and impressionable. They are being opened up to a new environment and new standards. These are skillful young players. They can run and some can kick the ball on both sides.

Holding them down with snail-paced football might be restricting their ability to do serious damage. You take a look at Higgins, Richards, Stephenson and such. They all can seriously play, and everyone is seeing it. Dow is going to be something, but I can't help but think he could have stood out even more if the team wasn't so afraid to take risks.

I worry that engraving this style of game in the kids minds will leave weaknesses remaining for other teams to easily expose in the coming years.

Despite what players we bring in this trade period, there is still work needing to be done inside the club.

I appreciate there are 17 other clubs and you can't make a result happen just because you want it.

But has been alluded to, had we dangled pick #1 GWS would have pushed for Shiel to choose us and that very well may have gotten us over the line.

Equally, if we dangled pick #1 as being seriously on offer for an established mid heading into trade week, we might have had a few more knocks on the door...

Sorry, but I can’t agree with you...a player needs to wanna move to Carlton before the talk of any draft picks even comes into play

That looks like significant picks (+ the player) handed over.
Future upgrade. 3rd to their 2nd, or our 2nd for their 1st...?
Just checking out the intel on the McGovern deal. It might be our 2019 2nd for your 2019 3rd as we need points for a couple of Next Gen players from memory. It could (although I would highly doubt it) be our 1st for your 2nd - if the club thinks you will finish low and we finish top 4, there might only be a 7 or 8 pick drop after some compo picks that always tend to happen

How can you upgrade a future pick when we dont know where either team is going to finish and therefor know where each pick is going to be? unless they are giving us their 1st for our 2nd or their 3rd for our 4th etc how do they know it will be an upgrade?
I think you just answered your own question.

Given the choice between Shiel and #1, I suspect most of us would choose #1. If what you say is right, i'm pleased SOS held firm.
Except its not actually Sheil v #1
Its Shiel Setterfield and maybe something else v #1 .
If Setterfield is so highly rated and by many on our board as well who seem to be ìn raptures in getting him then weve already landed a Walsh .
We may have missed a good opportunity by over valuing pick 1 .
