Loving what we're doing so far. Already have 2 players locked and loaded, with a 3rd nominated and likely to get done - and we're only a few days in.

Keen to know if there are other targets we're looking at and also what currency we're looking at using to get WS across the line.

Would love to hear from y'all Marc Shmurf 3 ericpascoe tencentpiece barass70 carlton09 RoyalBlues Wickzki reg_lower91

Did you even read their post? Outside of Shiel, who is the other established 24-27 year old midfielder we are meant to trade for, or that we were supposed to be targeting? Polec? Or were we expecting Gaff to sign somehow??

Facts:
We can't target who isn't there
We can't court guys with a 2 win season

The only other option was to throw Pick 1 at Shiel. And for what? Walsh over 10 years + vs Shiel over 5-7. Which do you really, really think is better? Sustained success of short term?

You're livid with the trade? Think about what you're posting.

We traded 26 and 28 and McAdams
26 and 28. If we go to the draft, what are we getting? 18 year old prospects - not 24 - 27 year old midfielders.
Pick 13? Again, another 18-19 year old.
McAdams? State League is a lottery. And he is not an established AFL player, as you're asking for.

Think about what you're posting lol.
Just want all the whinger’s to read this again.

I keep saying it, what frustrates me the most about the McGovern trade is that we paid overs for him (a forward we don’t really need) when we were determined that we wouldn’t pay overs for Shiel (a mature midfielder who we acknowledged we need this trade period)

How does that freaking make sense?
Essentially it was sam Walsh for shiel we are not in window makes no sense to pay overs for shiel in the short term

I can't believe Nick Dal Santo gets paid to talk about football. I don't think he even watches it. He must have naked photos of Hutchy
I like him - think he and sam work well together - not easy prognosticating for hours particularly when you're talking possibilities & maybes

So now we have MM and Fasolo are sorted. Setterfield will probably go for a future second round pick

Are there any other whispers going around about who we are interested in and could trade for?

Obviously can see Levi being moved on to get another draft pick for this year. Do the ITK posters have any information

Don’t hate on me, but Alex Johnson was on Trade Radio, looking for a rookie spot for next year back from his latest knee reco mid next year.

Anyone else think it’s worth a punt on the rookie list, 26, so 29 when we have a crack at it. Sydney where so willing to stick by him for so long and they are awesome at spotting talent, so got to assume they saw something. A rookie spot for 2 years costs us stuff all, but if Sydney was right and Russell can get him right in 2 years we might look like genius or we send him on his way without losing anything
I spoke to one of the Swan's fitness staffers about him. They love him and think he's incredibly talented. However, they also conceded he was done. It took removing his ACL and using an ITB loop to get his knee right, then he goes and does his other knee for the first time this year. His knees REALLY don't like changing direction.

Don’t forget the midfield also improves when we have Doc and Willo delivering the ball out of the backline. I mean, how on earth were the midfield meant to get their hands on the ball when O’Shea was making the play?

The key now is to get blokes fit. That means Doc and Willo, and Kennedy, SPS, and Fisher. Keep those guys on the training track and the park, and I’m sure we get better.

I think they’ve all signed non disclosure agreements ...

Adelaide supporters have every right to laugh at us for paying overs for McGovern.

While we sit here and try to justify how much we paid to make ourselves feel better.

Breaking down the trade, it’s basicaly the equivalent for pick 13 for McGovern and a future round 4 pick for mcadam.

#13 for McGovern is reasonable for a contracted player. We thought we might get #12 as a PP and hand that over. McAdam's value is unknown. We get a 3rd rounder for him, not a 4th rounder.

I’m sure we could have packaged up a deal with Shiel, setterfield and someone else for our pick 1 and something else.

But it seems we have become a club that is addicted to pick 1, even when it’s a bonus pick that we weren’t expecting at all and only got because of a horror year full of injuries

McGovern is effectively 66.6% a part of the Bryce Gibbs deal and 33.3% the AFL's priority selection.

We already have O'Brien, Kennedy, DeKoning and Schumacher as a part of the Bryce Gibbs deal.

McGovern was at the start of a new contract.

Adelaide did ok but they haven't robbed us, they just got a little back from the Gibbs trade and gave more.

We have not overpaid. We just gave Adelaide a pick back and another pick we got through the Gibbs trade and a pick the AFL gave us.

Lets not forget they took our future 5th and gave us a future 3rd. So we have no fifth and two third round picks next season so they also upgraded next year's draft for us. So the Gibbs/McGovern deal is still giving.

We have done very well.

A good strategy for what?

We were always looking to add senior bodies and they cost draft picks.

Wasn't the narrative we were supposed to be adding those senior bodies to the midfield?

Right now, we've added two senior forwards. One pretty good, one decidedly average.

Not passing comment on the total trade period as still more to come.

Simply don't want to be going into two drafts in a row where we only have 1 pick in the top 40.

I wouldn't have given up 2 second rounders for MM personally.

Going in with only 1 pick in the top 40 picks (as it stands) isn't a good strategy imo.

Why be so draft heavy focused?

We don't need to be hitting the draft super hard anymore. We need to bring in mature talent as a priority.

don't tell me dr plow and russell couldn't rebuild him........

The pick 13 part for McGovern I don’t really mind, as I was prepared to part with both second rounders or one second round and state player.

But the mcadam part is the thing that puts the deal as overs.
We attached him as part of the deal to sweeten it for Adelaide, and in effect by the time we give them our future 5th and receive their future 3rd back, it pretty much averages out to gaining out to upgrading one of our future picks by one round.

With WS we are waiting to see what essendon & GWS do re:shiel. Hope is we might be able to get involved there somehow and get him on the cheap. Otherwise it will likely be 2019 second round pick and maybe some other swaps involved. We do have our eyes on some other prospects/pick trades, nothing to share currently.
