There's no reason to get upset over Shiel not nominating anyone. There are a lot of reasons why he would be holding off.
Playing the game - It's common practice for big names players to shop themselves around and play their destination club. It's bargaining. I have no problem with players doing this, it's professional people trying to make the most out of their career. Push Carlton, see how far they will go and if they can match competitors then agree to terms.
Other trades - If he nominated us then other clubs may be less likely to trade with us. Our competitors didn't want us getting a priority pick and they won't want us to bludgeon this trade and draft period. Adelaide wont like us getting Shiel and Setterfield. I also believe the Setterfield trade could be affected if they know Shiel is coming to us. We'll take Setterfield for a fair price (second round pick) and Shiel for unders (2019 first). They won't be happy to deal with Setterfield if we're going to try and get Shiel for unders. Sign Setterfield and Shiel may nominate after that. Do the deals separately. They may also get demanding over the pick we have for McGovern too if he's not signed as well, I wouldn't be surprised if we have to sign McGovern first to take the pick/s off the table. Shiel is the only player we can back thim into a corner over.
Shiel wants us to get our trades. Shiel might want success and he might want to see if Setterfield and McGovern get to us and if we keep pick 1. Might have also been waiting to see what happens with Russell. May just be interested in our direction and being at a club going forward who can get things done. If we fail and have to go to the draft, Shiel might not want that.
It's genuine. Perhaps he genuinely has not decided. I very much doubt this.
Shiel will get to us if he nominates us and GWS can't get out of their salary cap mess.

I think it's the perfect opportunity to use SPS off HB. Very good defensively and with his run and class would be a weapon next to Doc & Willo.

Sam Maclure asked Boomer Harvey which team he would recommend Shiel choose (Haw Ess*, Carl or StK) - just based on lists, ignoring money.
Boomer said Carlton or *. Thought about it a bit longer and said Carlton. Rates our list.

The best part about the last fortnight has to be Adelaide fans though.
Every man and his dog thinks something like 24+ a state league player will be enough for McGovern. Adelaide fans think they are getting 2 first rounders because he is contracted...
On Twitter, media people keep throwing up suggestions like that and being howled down by screaming crows fans.
Worth the price of admission and I don't even rate McGovern that much. I know we will bail them out in the end by packaging 2 assets for pick 18 or something so they can technically get a 'first round picks and save face, but it's pretty funny...
