The Adelaide clubs would regard pick 2 as a virtual pick 1 because they want the SA kids. I highly doubt we will get anything of value to trade down whilst still ensuring we get Walsh.

Simplified, there is no incentive for a club to trade up a single place, if there is incentive for the other club to trade down a place.
You need to be jumping up at least 2 spots.

Yeah I know it’s posturing from Freo and they may yet agree but Hogan is definitely worth two mid first rounders.

Previously people have had this reputation that SOS is difficult to deal with. I have always thought that is an unfair reputation. Think he goes in with open minded approach and know what players are valued at pays that. I do not think he tries to "WIN" trades by getting amazing unders.

I believe that Freo are seriously burning bridges. They did it with McCarthy, where they told him just say us only and we'll get you next year for next to nothing and Freo are doing it again with Hogan. If I was Melbourne, I would go to West Coast and say "Give us pick 19 and your future 1st and you can have him".

Port also really overrate their players and always seem to asking for the world.

We know all too well about Dodoro and Essendon.

I feel like these are the 3 teams that tend to always want to try to "WIN" every trade and get way unders for players. It makes it unattractive for other teams to deal with them.

I think Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn are seen to be good to deal with and hence why deals tend to happen early and I think Carlton will soon have this reputation.

But Crows won't take Walsh. They want Lukosius.
So there needs to be a big incentive for Gold Coast to trade out #2, and then what's the incentive for Crows to give extra for #1?

The Cripps/Setterfield/SPS/Fisher/Dow and possible Walsh combo is going to be one hell of a midfield in a couple of years. Get excited!

Agree GB! I do hope Crippa isn't broken in two years!!!!!!! Must get him help or just get thumped and manage him well.

Pick 1 shenanigans only make sense if SOS rates someone more highly than Walsh, but even then, I'm struggling to see the incentive for other clubs to 'help' us with getting 'our guy plus extras', when they can otherwise let us pick 'our guy' at 1, and deal among themselves for picks 2-8 or whatever.

Conceivably, I suppose, SOS may not be able to separate, say, Walsh and Smith, and thus 'Smith and extras' is obviously a more desirable outcome than Walsh alone.

The permutations are all getting a little tricky for me, though - would appreciate someone explaining how this might work!

Just watched his highlights wow wow, nice clean hands, under pressure disposal was great. Loved it.

I've been saying all along that Freo shouldn't discount West Coast for Hogan. JK only has a couple of years left, Darling has the agility and manuverability to play as a third tall meaning Hogan fits in superbly.

Yet here they are screwing teams over even with a new brainstrust.
