I agree. Poor and maybe even a desperate decision to guarantee Barker a job......maybe we had to, just to get him to take the caretaker role.

Still doesn't make it right and could work against us.

This was a decision made out of respect for Barker, a genuine acknowledgement that he needed a level of employment security in the event he was not successful for the Senior Coaching position, a desire to keep good characters around the club and a belief he would work well with the Senior coach. This was part of the discussion upon Barker initially taking the reigns.

Bolton was also across this through the process. This is not a poor decision, it is the club doing the 'right' thing.

Couldn't agree more.

I hope that doesn't serve to undermine BB in his new role. You'd hope it wouldn't but this is Carlton.

There are just too many times in games when he just doesn"t go at the footy when its his time to go. I still maintain he's a lazy player that has gotten as far as he has on his talent alone.
Fair enough, you'd see more at the ground then I'd see on tv.

if Bolton is happy with it then perhaps Barker would make a good development / VFL coach ? development is going to be a massive aspect for us given we are starting from ground zero, has been a weakness in the past

If Bolton is happy with it, I've no problem him being an assistant at all. But he should get to decide, not the board.

Did Barker have an existing contract beyond the end of the year? It may be more that he was guaranteed to see out his contact than a new contract at the end of the season.

Fair point and he may have had an existing contract.....but it doesn't seem that way given what has been said.
Why guarantee for Barker to stay on? What happens if Bolton doesn't want him? Bad luck? Another payout? We haven't got money.

The other thing is that if some players favour Barker as coach, divisions can come into play....Last thing we need is more distractions.
Anyway, first things first, in announcing Bolton and let's hope (?) that it's only smooth sailing from here on in.

I've said I'd like to see Barks in this role. Doesn't hurt his coaching aspirations going forward and he's not sitting next to Bolton in the box on match day.

That doesn't sound like a good 'process' to me Blue Thunder

How was Bolton across this decision if it was done 3 months ago?

If good characters are important around the club....and I agree that they are...the Kreuzer a shoe-in to stay and Carlisle won't get close.

Maybe they just find a different role for him. It does sound ludicrous when you think of it. New employee in ... points to people and says ... you, you and you. Don't know you but your presence makes me uneasy. Fire them please.

Did Bolton and Barker work together at Hawthorn?

Maybe it was explained to all aspirate coaches during the interview process. Just speculating.

For sure. Carlton want to get useful positive performing people around the club. Makes sense.

but a coaching job isn't your run of the mill position, usually the coach gets to appoint his team. Anyway, Barker doesn't seem the type to play games or whiteant people, fingers crossed it works out they both seem like quality people.

should be Bolton's call whether Barker stays on, has potential to be awkward like your ex living with you in the spare bedroom.

But according to a few movies I've seen the hilarity factor will be off the charts...

I like the idea of barker being the nth blues development coach.
I didn't rate him as an assistant coach but boy did he impress me as a senior coach. Maybe this is the best way to get the most out of his talents.

You didnt rate him as an assistant coach?, why, do you know him, are you inside the club? The reality is no one has any idea how good an assistant he was. As a senior coach hes been front and center and been very impressive

Beveridge is using the existing assistants.

Is it official Barker has been guaranteed a position?

I can't imaging Bolton signing if he did know and wasn't happy with who he'd be working with.

Seems to be an push on here to think the worst of Barker . Maybe Bolton demanded Barker stays . Who the **** would know?

Barker has done a fantastic job.

Would be a big step back imo

And NBs havent been engineered for success

Barker was under Ratts and was allowed to stay under Mick. When he got the caretaker role he phoned Mick the first couple of games. Must be easy to get along with.
